Through thousands of years of history, because of his overwhelming, never-ending, outlandish love, God meticulously worked out his divine plan to save us. He promised it in the beginning and said, "What I have planned, that will I do. My plans cannot be stopped" (Isaiah 46:8-11).

But God faced a dilemma: how could he send his radiant, majestic Son into the world without creating total chaos? To solve the problem, he decided to send his Son naturally, unobtrusively, dressed in the costume of a tiny, Hebrew, baby boy.

To make it happen, God chose a nation to host his Son when he arrived. It's not that they were more special people than others; they were just given a very special task--to remain pure and holy for the infant King's birth. And that plan required a special law to keep those people pure--the Law of Moses.

Unfortunately, that Law created friction and hatred between the Hebrew nation and their Gentile neighbors who continued to follow the law of good versus evil given to them at Creation. The Law of Moses required the Hebrews to make special sacrifices and observe different feasts than their neighbors. The Bible says that Law became the "dividing wall of hostility" between the nations, primarily because it was misunderstood. It surely seemed haughty and arrogant to the Gentiles, but it was an act of worship and obedience to the Hebrews.

At long last, "at the exact right time," (Romans 5:6) God kept his long-awaited promise. His Son was born on earth as the Messiah for all the world. He lived a perfect life as a Hebrew, but he was not only hated by the Gentiles, he was rejected as the Savior by the Hebrews. Eventually, he was killed out of that combined hatred--instigated by the Hebrews and carried out by the Romans. And yet, miraculously, that long-expected moment in time--a moment of death for him that created life for each of us--tore down the dividing wall to create a new law that would unite all people once again and offer peace to all nations. (Ephesians 2:14-18) We call that law the New Testament.

And to this day we celebrate the birth of that tiny King--the Son of God and the Prince of Peace. Oh! that we could each accept the salvation God offers us through him and live in the worldwide peace he came to give us. "Let there be peace on Earth, and let it begin with me."

For about 25 years this special group of people (less three who could not attend and three who are now in heaven) have been celebrating Christmas together. We lovingly referred to ourselves as The CLOT (because we didn't want to be a clique). This year was so much fun--great food, Christmas crackers, gift exchange, and a remarkable song by our youngest members, Connor and Paxton, not to mention a lot of shared history and hysterics. We are more than friends; we're treasured family. Love these guys so much!
