It's been a busy time at Greyhaus Literary Agency this summer. This just in! We just signed Bronwyn Scott to a fantastic 10-book deal with Harlequin Mills & Boon historicals. She will be writing both Regency and Victorian and it looks like there may be some additional projects being tossed into the mix. VERY EXCITED. WTG Bronwyn Scott.

Add this to the Matilda Madison 3-book deal at Dragonblade, but please... stay tuned. There is more excitement coming soon.

I know I am always saying this, and I will continue to say this. Being a professional writer requires being educated. This is a job. This is a career. It takes time to learn how to write and to understand how the entire business works. Think of it this way. Do you want a doctor to just say, "Hey, I watched an episode of E.R. last night so I am going to open up my own family practice on Monday?" Probably not. Would you even think of doing something like that? Probably not.

So please, take the time to learn how to write. Learn the craft. Learn about the business, but become educated from quality and knowledgeable people in the industry. Just getting advice from someone who claims they know something without verifying their credentials might not be the wisest approach.

If you have emailed me about a submission, (not within the last 2-3 days, and have not heard back from me, email me and let me know. I just got off the phone with my email server company. Apparently, when someone else has had changes in their security system, sometimes the incoming messages don't make it. I made the changes on my end so those should be able to get through now. Please note, I am only talking about submissions prior to the last week.

Even with the 4th of July, I was still busy working with contract things for clients. Still working on these this morning even before my cup of coffee. Now to get that coffee and I can get on to other things.

Very busy day today. Working on contracts, proposals, answering submissions, and clients' works in progress. Multi-taking fool because I have also cleaned the kitchen, vacuumed and steam cleaned up stairs and now I am getting ready to settle down to some personal writing. Whew!

Catching up on submissions today after a great conference up in Bellingham, Washington. It is always great to work with a lot of passionate writers who focus their attention on their craft! Many have a long way to go, but with their passion, I can see some potentially making it.

Taught Marketing Your Novel and it was a great success. Very eye opening for a lot of these writers who never really knew all that went into marketing your book. Mention Megan Crane Maisey Yates, Jane Porter, and Bronwyn Scott a lot for the great work they do with their marketing.

Just an update. I have read and responded to all new submissions including those sent directly to me at the agency and those on Query Manager. All requested manuscripts that have been received, both directly to the agency and those on Query Manager have been read and responded to. I do have a couple of you, here on FB, who were going to send the material that apparently had not been sent earlier, I am still waiting on that material.

While cleaning the house today and working on those random chores, I came up with an idea. It is still in the "drafting the idea" stage. There is an accident lawyer in the area who has "written a book" on different types of accident cases. OK, I get it, his books are more like pamphlets, but it still got me thinking. Part of my goal at Greyhaus is to educate authors on publishing. Maybe something will come of this? Who knows.

All new submissions have been read. I do have about 4-8 requested submissions to read.

Again, please note, I do state on my submission guidelines that I answer people in less than three months. I have recently found that several authors have reached out well beyond that date, only to find that the response was still sitting in their SPAM folder.

Still working hard here in Indy. Marketing Workshop is almost done! Taking a lot longer than I thought it would. There is a lot of material to cover and only 1 hour to do it. I know from teaching this with UCLA Extension, writers have a lot of questions so I am trying to pre-empt those questions.
