The 2024 Mountains Music & Motorcycles is underway. Activities continue Saturday, and close out with biker breakfast and church service Sunday morning.
Four races have developed for Mountain View City Council positions coming up in the Nov. 5 General Election. Incumbent J.K. Williams is challenged by Jessica Sterlin and incumbent Finis Brewer is challenged by Gary L. Williams in Ward 1.
Incumbent Ricky Shuttleworth is challenged by Charles R. Widmer and incumbent Truman L. Bullard is challenged by Bobby Day in Ward 2.
Ward 3 incumbents Dana Woods and Danny E. Simmons filed for re-election without opposition.

The boil order for the Mountain View water system in the areas on Hwy 87 from Wilcox Drive to Chateau Pointe Loop has been lifted, according to a system alert posted at mvwater.org.

BOIL ORDER ISSUED FOR MOUNTAIN VIEW WATER:
Due to a leak on Mountain View Water System, the areas on Hwy 87 from Wilcox Dr to Chateau Pointe Lp. will be under a boil order until further notice. The roads included are: Double Bridge Lp., Heritage Oaks Dr., Jacobs Ln., Rendezvous Ln., Bob White Ct., Peace Mtn Rd., JW Dr., Tucker Ln., Sycamore Dr., Dogwood Valley Dr., Wilcox Dr., & Chateau Pointe Lp.
Sylamore Creek claimed hay bales, kayaks, and other objects, including a camper trailer shown in this video as it strikes the piling of the Highway 5 bridge just after 11 am Wednesday (July 17) and enters White River in pieces. As much as 15 inches of rain fell overnight northwest of Mountain View.

Share your homesteading dreams! On Saturday, June 22, 2024 the Ozark Folk Center State Park Craft Village will host Ozark Farmways workshops. Workshops include Composting for a Healthy Garden; Using goats, sheep & chickens to reclaim land; Make Your Own Sauerkraut; Donkey Power in the Ozarks; Herbal Bug Repellents; History, Herbs, & Healing; and more. There is no preregistration required and regular Craft Village admission fee covers all workshops. The Village is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Stone County's women Veterans will be honored at the quarterly meeting of the Stone County Historical Society on Sunday, June 9 at 2pm. The public is invited to be part of the celebration that will take place at the auditorium of the Stone County Museum at 206 School Avenue, Mountain View.

The Mountain View Area Chamber of Commerce has immediate openings for office volunteers! Duties include answering phones, welcoming visitors, and answering general questions about the area. We have openings available on Monday and Friday mornings, Tuesday afternoons, and Saturdays. Contact Tracy at the Chamber office at 870-269-8068.
We are set up (as are other canvassers) and ready. There is a voter registration clerk on site as well. We’ll be here until 2:00.

The Mountain View School Board hired former coach and recent Mountain View Athletic Hall of Fame inductee Tim Howard as the district athletic director and dean of students, and tapped Ashley Dearien as high school assistant principal at Mountain View contingent on approval from the state Department of Education.

Town is hopping today on Eclipse-eve. Vendors are open, as are many shops downtown. Vehicles parked around the square include some from Tennessee, Texas, Wisconsin, Washington, Missouri, Iowa, Mississippi, Georgia, Minnesota, Florida, Massachusetts, Kansas, Nebraska, Utah, and Illinois. There is a dance on the courthouse stage at 2:00, and Lane Long performs at 4:00 today.
Mountains Music and Motorcycle Saturday is getting cranked! Lots of bikes out on the highway for the poker run, car show until noon, bike show at the front of the square. Main Street at the square will be closed 2-5 pm for the stunt shows and biker games.

Veterans are being honored on local school campuses. Mountain View presented a program this morning, along with a display of artwork in the gymnasium lobby. This was part of it. We join the artists in saluting all veterans.
The former Cedar America building (aka Knot Hole Factory) in Mountain View is being systematically demolished so that the lot can be developed as a new location for Meadows Ford.

Wind is proving to be a challenge but the bean chefs are getting it done for the 40th annual Bean Fest and Championship Outhouse Race in Mountain View. Beans will be served at noon and the races are set for 1:30 on Main Street.
Destin Morrison of Timbo wins the “King of Pipes” title at Mountains Music and Motorcycles, which started today in Mountain View. His bike registered 122.7 decibels. Amanda Casad of Bismarck won “Queen of Pipes” with a reading of 121. There will be live music on the courtsquare tonight, and more activities Saturday.
Mountain View Water Department personnel are working along Sylamore Avenue near the post office to stop a leak in the 10-inch main line. Two men are submerged to their necks attempting to slip a clamp over the leak, which is at the site of an old service connection. Rocks beneath the line are hindering progress.
