The wedding industry lost a tremendously talented baker this week. A couple of years ago, I had a spectacular shoot planned for Ohio Weddings Magazine, and the only thing that I was missing was the cake. I just couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. I found out that someone right in my town, Deneen Dellarco, made cakes, and she told me of a fabulous chandelier cake that she had won awards for, and I simply had to see it. When she brought the cake, I couldn’t believe how beautiful it was, and she was so kind and so much fun that she and I just ended up hanging out and laughing the whole shoot. The picture won an award and I went to bring her the magazine with her cake in it. She was so happy that it featured her cake. We didn’t see a lot of each other after that, but when we did, I always left with such a happy impression of how great she was and always thought how much I would love to be closer to her beautiful, positive light.
I learned today that she has unexpectedly passed, and I am devastated. There is so much more that I would like to say, but it’s her story, not mine. Godspeed, my talented friend.

Todays What Made the Moment Magical comes from the fabulous who says, “Ryleigh and Logan’s wedding day came with only a 15% chance of rain, but it was inevitable, and I really wanted this boat shot ( which was slated for golden hour after the ceremony) -so as I did their first look- their bridal party decorated and filled the boat with a moments notice and we got them in and pushed them out and right as we were done, the sprinkles came, but they were troopers and we finished up and the day continued on perfectly!”

It can be hard to eat at the head table if the decor takes over the space, but today's inspiration offers a simple solution! Simply placing the grandest part of the display at the base of the table frees up space while still offering visual flare.

I felt so privileged to show them what their bond looked like from an outside perspective. From (my) perspective. Their connection was electrifying, yet soft. Their love felt timeless, yet new in each passing moment. Their foundation, an admirable friendship and their home, a sacred love. It was clear that they didn’t feel the need to prove this to anyone…so I saw it as a gift for themselves to always have and to go back to. Hello and welcome back to Ask Emily! 💌 Today’s topic is:
Wedding Favors 🎁
A: Putting together gift bags for your guests to take home at the end of the night is such a nice way of saying “thank you for celebrating with us” without having to stand by the door as they leave.
Long gone are the days of candy filled bags with a toy or two that used to follow classroom parties in grade school, which begs the question: what should I put in a wedding favor bag?
Here are some characteristics to consider:
1. Personalization
- There are tons of things to be personalized like coasters, water bottles, shot glasses, or even succulent plants. By personalizing the favor with a special message, you make the gift that much more special and will definitely make your wedding unforgettable.
2. Practicability
- Giving something that will go bad like food or too niche like a specific type of nut or soap might not be the best option. Guests might be inclined to decline or put it away once they get home and never touch it again. Things like sunglasses or water bottles or maybe a journal/planner are something that can be used daily and would most likely be appreciated.
Once you think about these two qualities, the rest should be a bit easier. Though I do want to say, food might be too niche UNLESS we’re talking small candy or confections such as macarons or cookies as those tend to be generally well-received.

This could have been my wedding…27 years ago, my husband wanted to be outside for the wedding and reception, he wanted a 9 piece brass band with “doo w*p girls” (his language, not mine) and he let himself be coaxed into making a guest appearance at a cake tasting or two… how have things changed?

“jen + luke spent a lot of time outside the Bryn Du Mansion throughout their relationship, so it made perfect sense to revisit some of their favorite spots for their bridal portraits! despite a sunny and warm start to to the day, it began to rain immediately after their first look. just as soon as i thought we’d have to start looking for a place indoors, the sun burst through the clouds and the sky looked like it had never rained! it was as if the sun had appeared just for jen + luke. i’m so thankful we were able to capture their love in the place that held so many of their memories”

Years ago, cast iron cookware was made to a higher standard. Increasing production costs and pressure from aluminum cookware forced cast iron manufacturers to look for lower-cost methods. This change in production method resulted in the inexpensive cast iron cookware we see on the mass market today which is notably heavier and rougher than it should be.
