Risa Tochigi, aka: Boogie, Announced as Muralist for the Poughkeepsie Gateway Project
From the City of Poughkeepsie:
Arts Mid-Hudson, Poughkeepsie Alliance and O+, are pleased to announce Risa Tochigi aka Boogie as the muralist for the Poughkeepsie Gateway Project. Boogie will create the art intervention at the Route 9 Underpass on Main Street in Poughkeepsie, NY.
The call for artists was open until March 15, encouraging all muralists to share their vision for the underpass. Arts Mid-Hudson received 21 submissions from artists from the Hudson Valley, New York City, New Jersey, Chicago and Europe. The decision was made by a jury of organizational representatives and community members who selected their top five submissions for community input. After a community input session, held in April, Boogie was chosen.
Boogie is a Japanese American street artist based in Poughkeepsie, who crafts detailed imaginary creatures, flowing abstractions and fun-loving characters. Her body of work taps into the flow of the streets and the vibrations of the dance culture. Her creative spirit blends the technical mastery of traditional Japanese prints with urban imagery, materials and locations.
The Poughkeepsie Gateway Project is to be completed between July 24 and August 4, 2018.
