We are looking forward to seeing you at the 2024 Convention and Awards Show of the Chesapeake AP Broadcasters Association!

Please let us know if you have an item to donate for this year's Bob Shilling Memorial Scholarship auction!

This year’s silent auction will be held Friday, May 31, during the all-you-can-eat crabfeast at Hooper's Crab House in Ocean City, Md.

Items donated by your station or company will be auctioned off to the highest bidder in attendance. Any high-ticket items will be carried over to live bidding during the Awards Show on Saturday night. All money collected goes to fund the $3000 scholarship.

Trips, vacation home stays, spa days, balloon rides, concert tickets, sporting events, electronics, museum passes, restaurant gift and gas cards are just a few ideas.

So please check with your business partners and promotion staff for items to help us fund a worthy student and future broadcaster’s education. It's good PR for your station and it benefits a great cause.

Please contact auction co-chairs Carolyn Presutti or Gregg Micklos about any donations ([email protected] or [email protected]). Items may be sent to the following address:
Gregg Micklos
DC News Now
2121 Wisconsin Avenue NW, Suite 350
Washington, DC 20007

Thank you for your generosity!

The CAPBA Awards honors outstanding broadcast journalism in Maryland, Delaware and Washington, D.C. It will be held May 31-June 2 at the beautifully renovated Hilton Garden Inn Ocean City Oceanfront (formerly the Dunes Manor Hotel).

Activities kick off Friday at 7:00 p.m. with a Crab Feast and Auction to benefit the Bob Shilling Memorial Scholarship, followed by Saturday’s 9:00 a.m. business meeting and Seminar on “Safety of Journalists and the Changing Environment We Work In." In this presentation, we will discuss the current threats, trends, and concerns of domestic US journalists and what we can do to move forward, support our field crews, and provide a safe working environment for all staff and freelancers. We will cover threat assessment and planning, low-resource reporting, civil unrest, hate groups, and crimes against the media.

Then there's the Awards Reception & Banquet beginning at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday night, and of course, the BEACH throughout the weekend!
