The government is planning to legalize cannabis, potentially allowing adults to possess up to 25 grams of cannabis and grow a maximum of three plants for personal use.

Under aproposed law, the drug could be cultivated and sold by so-called cannabis clubs, subject to strict rules, including in neutral packaging and a maximum of 50 grams per customer per month.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz's cabinet is due this week to discuss a draft bill that would allow the limited consumption of hashish and ma*****na. The plans have been widely criticized as impossible to police.

Who can buy it?

Cannabis will be legal for anyone 21 and over to buy and consume starting July 1. People who want to buy ma*****na must go to a state licensed dispensary or grow their own ma*****na in their home.

The new law allows people to grow up to two plants in their home at one time.

Dispensaries are preparing for an influx of customers as state opens its adult-use market.
