Modern Harmonic “If you’re not doing something different, you’re not doing anything.” -Sam Phillips

Modern Harmonic is a creative haven to showcase the unusually beautiful, offbeat, and exotic. Modern Harmonic is the quintessential home for harmony and dissonance, classic and eccentric jazz, experimental music, space age pop, noise, bop, beat poetry, outsider music, and other genres for people who prefer their music slightly left of center. Modern Harmonic is based in the Sundazed/Nashville offi

ce inside the Historic RCA Studio A building on Music Row. For more information on Modern Harmonic releases, please contact Jay Millar: (615) 214-4361.

Following the recent creation of a Sundazed Surf-Centric Re**er Madness film edit, Modern Harmonic brings you the full film Gammera The Invincible with a new soundtrack that's almost exclusively post-punk.

Oddly, despite being from 1965 the U.S. version of Gammera the Invincible is in the public domain, while the original Japanese version, Gamera, the Giant Monster, is still under copyright. The American version entered the public domain because its copyright was not properly renewed. The original Japanese film, Gamera (with one "M"), the Giant Monster, is still under copyright and thus many scenes from this version are blocked in Japan. Why only some scenes? Because the folks who made the dubbed American release also shot new scenes with largely non-Japanese (mostly American) actors.

Ordinary Hopes is out today! Available on streaming and for purchase through Bandcamp, it is a treasure trove of shimmering harmonies, catchy guitar riffs, and some spectacular trombone that curls around their vocals. Their all original material really shines here, and we hope listening to Ordinary Hopes distills a bit of North Carolina sunshine and injects it straight into your nervous system!!! We're very proud to have Certain Seas in our catalog and we're extremely excited to share with you all!

Happy birthday to jazz guitar legend, the late great Barney Kessel! In addition to his stellar work as a leader, he was a member of the the Wrecking Crew, a member of the Oscar Peterson Trio and worked with Billie Holiday, Sam Cooke, and appeared on our Claudia Thompson LP and the equally good (wink) Pet Sounds LP!

Happy birthday to the late singer and model, Christa Päffgen, aka Nico! She was like nothing rock music had ever seen or heard before or since. She became a cult icon, especially for her work with the Velvet Underground. The sheer eeriness and other-worldliness of her later solo repertoire mark Nico as one of the most extraordinarily original performers of the rock era. We're very honored to have her music in our catalog!

Happy Birthday to the late great Paul Tanner! A mere two days after the creation of the Electro-Theremin, Paul Tanner recorded Music For Heavenly Bodies, a lush, eerie, and atmospheric take on space music. After the 1958 release, people around Hollywood took notice, and would lead to Tanner recording themes for My Favorite Martian, Lost in Space, and Dark Shadows. This work would secure for Tanner and his Electro-Theremin a place in the history books when he was contracted to record with the Beach Boys. The iconic theremin sound from "Good Vibrations" came from the very same Electro-Theremin created for Music For Heavenly Bodies.

One of the earliest forms of electronic music, from the originators of the genre! Though the theremin is often used in science fiction and film scores depicting the macabre, this album shows the theremin’s vibrant sweetness and gentle vibrato. It explores the instrument, using exotic harmonies, timbre and composition to play upon the more remote realm of human emotions. Includes all tracks from Music Out of the Moon & Music for Peace of Mind!

There are few as iconic as Mr. John Cage. Without him we might have never been able to put out a silent 45 (as part of our John Cage Meets Sun Ra DVD)! He goes far beyond his famous silent work though, we actually prefer his audible stuff like our two volumes of Variations IV or his Empty Words tracks from his Sun Ra collaboration.
