"Fastway" is the self-titled debut studio album by . It was released on CBS Records April 23rd, 1983. Happy 39th year release date anniversary!

The L.P. peaked at #31 on Billboard's Top 200 chart. Formed by ex- guitarist (R.I.P.) and soon to be ex- bassist (R.I.P.).

They also recruited both the former drummer and (then at the time) unknown lead singer .

Although before the record was recorded and as fate would have it, Pete Way backed out at the 11th hour, due to some sort of recording contract disagreement/and or possible recording breach of contract (he was rumored to still have been contractually invloved with UFO at that time), so a session bassist (Mickey Feat) played on the album. Pete would very soon thereafter form his own semi- successful group called

Standout tracks on the album include; "Say What You Will"(obviously), as well as "We Become One", "Feel Me Touch Me (Do Anything You Want)", "Give It All You Got", "Give It Some Action", "All I Need Is Your Love", "Easy Livin'" and "You Got Me Runnin'". I also dig the instrumental track, "Heft".

This week in 1983, Iron Maiden released their 8th single (and first from Piece of Mind), THE FLIGHT OF ICARUS. It was the band's first single to be released in the United States, and its widespread popularity pushed it up to #8 on Billboard's mainstream rock chart. Believe it or not, it remains the band's highest charting single in the US to date! And don't forget to check out the B-side on this one, which features a fantastic cover of "I've Got The Fire" by Montrose.

On this day in 1989, EXTREME released their eponymous debut album. The band was formed in Malden, Massachusetts in 1985, and after developing a strong local following, was signed by A&M Records in 1988. Their first record was heavily influenced by Van Halen, and even though it's somewhat uneven at times, Nuno Bettencourt's playing is positively astounding (highlights include Play With Me, M***a (Don't Wanna Go To School Today), Big Boys Don't Cry, Little Girls, and Kid Ego). While this should have been the album to put them on the map, it wasn't until their next release, Pornograffitti, that the band became truly well known. What's YOUR favorite song on this album?

This week marks the 34th anniversary of Aerosmith's comeback album, Permanent Vacation. Following the lukewarm reception of Done With Mirrors, A&R executive John Kalodner hired a group of professional songwriters to help with the band's 1987 release. The formula proved to be successful, and Permanent Vacation went on to sell more than 5 million copies in the US alone. The funniest anecdote from the album, however, is found in the story behind "Dude looks like a lady." Steven Tyler was apparently cruising some bars one evening (in his pre-sobriety days) when he spotted a hot chick with her back turned to him. Just as he was getting ready to approach her and lay down the Tyler charm, she spun around and...turned out to be Motley Crue's lead singer, Vince Neil. Vince had denied the story for years, but he finally fessed up in his autobiography and admitted that Steven wanted to tap that ass!
