Had to share this awesome news and say Congratulations!

In my last job as Tourism Director for Eureka Nevada, I took a workshop class in Ely in November to learn about and become a part of what is the Nevada Main Street program. Yes, part of the National Main Street America program. It was workshops, zoom meetings, reading, traveling all to help our community to have a strategic plan and become a part of the most amazing network of leaders, grant opportunities, training and friendships. The Nevada Main Street program is an ongoing program, not one and done!

Before I left Eureka I raised up a wonderful group of talented business owners and volunteers who are now Eureka Mainstreet to carry on the strategic plan. Kristan Umina is President, she is doing an amazing job!

This grant a Main Street first grant for Eureka required no match, it was an awesome opportunity!

I want to say congratulations to Eureka and the other communities on receiving this Main Street Grant! This funding will help with much needed downtown wayfinder signage, historical signs and art installations.

Yes, this was presented to Caliente, at a council meeting by Director Shari Davis and then I met with Craig and Mayor Rowe at City Hall as a follow up. I was turned down, only half a presentation was given due to another meeting that was planned that morning. My presentation was 20 minutes when it was cut short. It was made clear, there was no interest and no Room tax funding to do anything for any project at this time. I truly had wished to get them on board.

Perhaps in the future it might be considered. Miss Susan Llewellyn and myself had gone through the training which you must do to belong to this outstanding program.

There is a lot to get to know with this program as we are giving incredible access to all of these funding sources and help with the State and the Federal Government.
Mind blowing help!
We wanted to do a grant for Caliente, but for all of the funding that comes in to a community through grants, sponsors and fundraising you need to have your county, city or township be a partner, a supporter, have a committment to see the Main Street Strategic plan unfold, to include but not limited to some manpower, time, equipment or small financial support for future strategic planned projects. Main Street works with ALL of the stakeholders, businesses and partners for their communities.

It takes a lot to work on and have commitment to helping your community. Volunteers are gold, funding projects are always a pain, but doable. Every generation faces this it’s true.
So, when incredibly amazing opportunities happen, be brave, together we can make huge differences.

Saying yes is a leap of faith to be sure, but we are not alone, these awardees and their communities took a huge leap of faith to become a part of the Nevada Main Street movement.

Time, travel, training, writing, researching for their grants and projects, was it worth it? Will it continue to be worth it?
Absolutely …. With out a doubt YES!
Just ask any of the 23 MAIN STREET awardees.

$663,000 awarded in Nevada Main Street grants
Twenty-three projects were granted funding!

CARSON CITY, Nev. – Nevada Main Street, a program housed under the Rural Economic and Community Development Division of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), has announced funding for nearly two dozen projects.

Nevada Main Street, which offers a holistic approach to downtown revitalization across urban and rural communities, funded 23 of the 40 requested projects as part of the 2024 Nevada Main Street Grant Program. At least one project was approved in each of the 16 communities that applied, totaling $662,955 in awarded funds. The projects include an historic landmark installation, façade improvement programs, high-visibility crosswalks and more.

“Nevada’s rural communities are the heart of our state, and the Nevada Main Street program is crucial in ensuring their growth and revitalization,” said Governor Joe Lombardo. “By funding these initiatives, we are fostering economic prosperity for our state. I am excited to see the transformative impact these projects will have across Nevada.”

Nevada Main Street facilitates historic preservation, community development, beautification and economic vitality. There are currently 28 Nevada communities participating in the program.

“With additional funding provided through the governor and legislature in the last session, Nevada Main Street was able to offer a grant program to local Main Street organizations for projects that will create positive change in their communities,” said Shari Davis, GOED’s director of rural economic and community development. “I am continually impressed by the creativity, tenacity and dedication of our Main Street organizations, and I’m looking forward to seeing the positive impact as these projects are completed.”

· Downtown Reno Urban Main Street, multi-purpose Main Street clean fleet - $45,442

****** Eureka Main Street, Downtown sign project, downtown art installations - $18,734

· Main Street Fernley, Main Street Park high visibility crosswalks - $28,000

· Goldfield Main Street, Goldfield town square, Goldfield Gazette, and Goldfield town square fence - $32,901

· Hawthorne Main Street, The Plaza on Main Street - $49,353

· Jackson Street Alliance, modular office project – $50,000

· Main Street Boulder City, historic landmark installation - $38,000

· Main Street Gardnerville, façade improvement grant program, Heritage Park gardens, and open-air market - $50,000

· Main Street Winnemucca, Winnemucca mural, music festival - $50,000

· Mesquite Opportunities Regional Fund, Mesquite Corridor plan - $33,800

· MidTown Reno, MidTown welcome center – $45,000

· Moapa Valley Revitalization Project/Moapa Valley Main Street, St. Thomas Historic Community Garden - $50,000

· Tonopah Main Street, Downtown Park, storefront improvement grant - $49,722

· Virginia City Main Street, website development, community engagement program - $22,000

· Wells Main Street, complete Main Street retail center - $50,000

· White Pine Main Street, façade improvement program - $50,000

This is a shout out to our beautiful and very interesting Lincoln County Museums and Library’s of which Pioche is the main headquarters. We are so grateful we have these open to the public. So much goes into FUNDING, maintaining, cleaning and gently preserving historical buildings, costumes, equipment and displays. A labor of love, talent and dedication to be sure.

I went for a drive and wanted to go see our Lincoln County Museum as I have not been there in a while or the Old Million Dollar Court House. I am saving that one for my next visit.

I was greeted by the lovely Museum Docent, Emily Lomprey. After chatting and perusing this amazing museum, I learned my friend Shari Lynn had become the Director of both the Museums and the Lincoln County Library’s. She is truly an amazing and talented woman.

I was fortunate to catch her going in the Library and asked her about all she is doing, oh my goodness she is AMAZING!

Interview:

“ I started my duties as Library Director in November of 2016. The library system has 2 working branches right now, Alamo and Pioche and hopefully the Caliente Branch can re-open soon back in old depot.

We may not have all the new technology of bar code scanners or e books but we do have very personalized service with a smile. We try and keep the most requested on hand and with limited budget I think we do a good job of trying to keep people in their favorite authors.

I took over the museum and the Old million dollar courthouse on July 1st of this year. My title is Lincoln County Library and Museum Director. My staff at both places are amazing and I could not do my job without their hard work and dedication. Currently the Museum and Old Courthouse staff are working on changing displays and updating things esthetically.

The Old Courthouse and Museum are open to public free of charge but donations are welcome so that we can bring in new display ideas like lighted display cases and kiosks with digital photos.
They are open 7 days a week from 10am to 3pm.

The Old Courthouse (Million Dollar Courthouse )is only open from May 1st to September 30th but the Museum is year round .

The Alamo Library is open Mondays 1pm to 5:30pm and Tuesday thru Thursday from 11am to 4pm.

Pioche Branch is Mondays from noon to 6pm and Tues thru Friday 10am to 4pm.

The Pioche Library number is 775-962-5244

The Museum number is 775-962-5207 and The Old Courthouse is 775-962-5182.

The wonderful Museum/Courthouse staff are Ken Adams, Louis Benezet, Abigail Frehner, Emily Lomprey & Aria Reich.

Library staff in Alamo: Kaitlyn Jorgenson (librarian) Pete Gill (bookmobile librarian), Kimberly Hansen (Alamo Library sub), LouAnn Studebaker (Pioche library sub) and Kelsey Thatcher (Alamo library sub). They are all extraordinary and bring such talent to the departments where they work.”

Shari Lynn has also served on the Pioche Town Board since Jan 1st of 2023, her term ends Dec 31st 2024. She was also made Chairperson on January 9th 2024. Plus, she also is a Spiritual Life Coach and teaches specialty classes.
