It is time that we change the narrative.

The last 150 years have witnessed a profound and transformative journey of African Americans in America. Despite enduring deep-rooted racism and systematic oppression, African Americans have made monumental contributions to various spheres of American society, significantly shaping its cultural, political, and social fabric.

In the aftermath of the Civil War and the abolition of slavery, African Americans played a pivotal role in the struggle for civil rights and equality. Visionaries such as Frederick Douglass, Booker T. Washington, and W.E.B. Du Bois emerged as influential leaders, advocating for social and political change. Their efforts paved the way for significant legislative achievements, including the Thirteenth, Fourteenth, and Fifteenth Amendments, which abolished slavery, granted citizenship rights, and protected voting rights, respectively.

Throughout the 20th century, African Americans spearheaded the Civil Rights Movement, leaving an indelible mark on the nation. Figures like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr., and Malcolm X galvanized a powerful movement that aimed to end racial segregation and promote equality. Their courage and determination led to landmark victories such as the desegregation of schools, the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Voting Rights Act of 1965, dismantling discriminatory practices and fostering a more inclusive society.

In addition to their efforts in the civil rights arena, African Americans have made significant contributions to the arts, literature, and music. From the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s, which showcased the creative genius of writers like Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston, to the musical revolutions brought forth by jazz legends like Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald, African American cultural expression has enriched the American identity and global artistic landscape.

African Americans have also excelled in various professional fields, breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations. The accomplishments of trailblazers such as Mae Jemison, the first African American woman astronaut, and Thurgood Marshall, the first African American Supreme Court Justice, have shattered racial stereotypes and inspired countless others to pursue their dreams. African American entrepreneurs, business leaders, scientists, athletes, and entertainers continue to excel in their respective fields, contributing to America’s economic growth, scientific advancements, and cultural influence.

The contributions of African Americans to America in the last 150 years are immeasurable. From fighting for civil rights and equality to reshaping the cultural and artistic landscape, African Americans have left an indelible impact on the nation. Their achievements stand as a testament to resilience, perseverance, and the unyielding pursuit of justice and progress.

Above all goals of this publication, our most consistent theme shall be to feature and share the stories of our local entrepreneurs, community leaders, and business professionals, as we are the future of our history.

Although in certain circles the narrative of the African American is often misrepresented, one of our immediate goals should be to identify who we are...on printed paper.
