We'll talk about the many resources for learning about this Monmouth County-based Community, how they got here and their roots in the Lenape and Cherokee nations.

Meta - that's what's on my mind. I didn't invite it into my page and now I see a news brief courtesy of Law 360 - YES GOD:

BREAKING: FTC Antitrust Case Against Meta Is Heading To Trial

By Matthew Perlman

A D.C. federal court ruled on Wednesday that Meta will have to face trial on the Federal Trade Commission's claims that the Facebook parent company monopolized personal social networking through its acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp. end of report for those who do not subscribe.
But this complaint hardly appears to scratch the surface of my angst. Who needs a crazy mad editor grabbing your words before you can release them from your brain, let alone the keyboard. The craziest, most neurotic word crafter I've ever had to suffer through is no match for this bag of jumbled chips!! Come on Reforms and long serve Lina Kahn!!!

Asbury Park Reflections on Elections

06/11/2024

I’m feeling very skeptical that the Dems can overpower the GOP votes coming in. Like it’s 2016 all over again.
Is this like post Traumatic Stress disorder - on the homefront?

CAMPAIGN NEWS UPDATE: FOR CANDIDATES & VOTERS

Ryan, Lisa [DCA]
11:39 AM (2 hours ago)
to me

Hi Maureen,

The Local Finance Board in DCA administers the provisions of the Local Government Ethics Law, which you can find posted at Local Government Ethics Law and Rules.pdf on DCA’s website. The purpose of the law is to provide a method of assuring that standards of ethical conduct and financial disclosure requirements for local government officers and employees shall be clear, consistent, uniform in their application, and enforceable on a statewide basis, and to provide local government officers or employees with advice and information concerning possible conflicts of interest which might arise in the conduct of their public duties.

Subsection N.J.S.A. 40A:9-22.5(f) of the law states, “No local government officer or employee, member of his immediate family, or business organization in which he has an interest, shall solicit or accept any gift, favor, loan, political contribution, service, promise of future employment, or other thing of value based upon an understanding that the gift, favor, loan, contribution, service, promise, or other thing of value was given or offered for the purpose of influencing him, directly or indirectly, in the discharge of his official duties. This provision shall not apply to the solicitation or acceptance of contributions to the campaign of an announced candidate for elective public office, if the local government officer has no knowledge or reason to believe that the campaign contribution, if accepted, was given with the intent to influence the local government officer in the discharge of his official duties.”

Please note, if the candidates are not currently serving as local government officers, the subsection would not apply to them.

Regards,

Lisa

Since October 11 AR has turned our Stream into a window to the two slates running for your votes for Asbury Park Council. This is what we found - Welcome to Felicia Simmons of Asbury Park and former AP Councilman James Keady. TONIGHT

31/10/2024

Thursday Oct. 31 - Asbury Park’s City Clerk responded, to Asbury Radio’s Oct 30 OPRA inquiry, at 8:37am today.

AP ACT NOW Fri, Oct 25, 2024 at 9:03 AM
To: Maureen Nevin
Morning Maureen
We have OPRA'd the rating to find out what the actual rating was back then. We did that last week and have not obtained any answers as of this morning.

AR - There are no records supporting the Loffredo ticket’s contention that it filed an OPRA request to support AP ACT NOW’s AAA contention as per its email to AR on Friday Oct. 25th that the slate had submitted an OPRA the week before asking for the exact year the city received a Triple A credit rating - no such request was received by the city.

The AP ACCT NOW slate is questioning AR's references to it's candidate John Loffredo's acceptance of nearly $86,000. from the National Association of Realtors in the rent control referendum of 2021. Here are some related clips:

29/10/2024

BRIEF UPDATE on AP Council Race -as of Oct.29
ASBURY TOGETHER this week responded with a list of its bragging points, the first on its list, which includes Housing Issues:
"A Rent Leveling ordinance that has kept rental increases outside of the waterfront development
area (due to deals made under the past administration) to 3.5% allowing residents to remain in Asbury Park," according to the slate.

Our Question: The Asbury Park Affordable Housing Coalition put forth a proposed rent control ordinance in 2021 through referendum, which was voted down by residents and most council members. Deputy Mayor Amy Quinn bucked the rest of the council voting for the ordinance. Did her current running mates vote against it? If so, why have they changed their positions?

The challengers for council, AP ACT NOW, have put out statements also committing its candidates to rent control and more affordable housing.

Our Question: When and why did your candidate reverse his position on this issue? Why did candidate and former councilman John Loffredo, who served from 2000-2014, accept an $86,000 contribution, which Loffredo reported to ELEC during the referendum of 2021, from The National Association of Realtors? Was that organization in favor of rent control?

VERY BRIEF UPDATE: Candidate John Loffredo responded to our question, asking which credit rating agency of the two remaining major companies, approved a Triple A credit rating for the City of Asbury Park during his terms? (Moody's has already said it did not.) The slate responded that it has filed an Open Government Records Act OPRA request with the City Clerk, since the former councilman does not recall.

Maureen Nevin
This question seemed to AR important enough to have its own post: Oct.18, 2024

Thank you for your questions, Keith
It’s important that our viewers understand that our questions, comments and posts are not done in an either-or-way.
Wherever appropriate we give equal voice and attention to public questions without fear or favor.
We have consulted on campaign contributions to Asbury Together and the challengers AP ACT Now, first by consulting with the NJ Election Law Enforcement Commission’s (ELEC) press office. The office responded very quickly that it has reviewed both the slightly different elements of the Pay-to-Play law in question and referred us for a deeper look to the Department of Community Affair's (DCA) office, which can and does take matters further, which can lead to the leveling of violations if the office determines there is cause to pursue a violation of our election law.

It is too soon to expect the DCA office to have reviewed, let alone started looking into the more complex elements of the Pay-to-Play law.
Please note: these inquiries are routine and do not imply any wrongdoing at this time. Hope this helps.
We love hearing from you -
