The Internet Research Agency hired Americans to write for the site in addition to its use of computer-generated personas. The removal by Facebook was a result of a tip from the FBI. A report by network analysis firm Graphika drew comparisons to past efforts to undermine U.S. elections: ‘This facet of the operation suggests an attempt to build a left-wing audience and steer it away from Biden’s campaign, in the same way that the original IRA tried to depress progressive and minority support for Hillary Clinton in 2016.'
