Radio Free Phoenix http://radiofreephoenix.com/whatsup/ We went on-air August 18th, 2004 and 2016 has been our most challenging year for raising funds for the station.

Listen to a station that has the heart, soul and passion that once peppered the great underground rock stations of the past.Featuring a deep eclectic mix of Rock 'n' Roll from the last 50 years! Radio Free Phoenix is now 12 years old and we have just started our 2016 Radiothon - our fundraiser to keep RFP alive and on the air. Your jaw will be dropping like Johnny Peanut’s when you hear what we’ve got in store for you in Cartoon World on Radio Free Phoenix. Only the best feckin’ music on the planet by the likes of Bubble Puppy, Billy Bragg (Joe Beck), Beach Boys, Duncan Maitland,a recently unearthed track from The Stones (Tim Duke), Neil Young, Mary Chapin Carpenter (Elli Luha), Frampton coming alive, Jelly Fish, the Yardbirds, Spoon, Salt and only the Fast Freakin’ Camels! (Mark O'Connor, Joe Smith).

Some Maximum R&B from The Who and a track done 50 years later in *Whodunnit* this week, and it’s another *Mystery Sonic Six Pack* (I’m having too much fun with this ;) ) Guess the TV show based on tracks by Graham Parsons, Elvis Costello, Cheap Trick (Ken Goble), The Verve, PM Dawn and Angel & The Reruns.

Last but nowhere near least, I’ll be playing a Nazz track in *A Wizard, A True Star*.

Get yourself to Cartoon World Saturday morning any way you can, where we’ll be keeping the freak flag flying for the best underground music on the planet! Tune in to RadioFreePhoenix.com and I’ll bring you three hours of beautiful noise by Initial Shock, Ben Folds Five, The Wig, The No Ones, Blues Magoos, Big St*r, Parthenon Huxley, Neil Young, Sound Foundation, Eddie & The Hot Rods, Tom Petty, Zakary Thaks, The Move and More.

On the Rs in *Whodunnit*, and I’m pretty proud of this week’s *Sonic Six Pack*, “Music For A Topsy Turvy World”. Why? Because it’s made up of stonkin’ music by the Yardbirds, Men At Work, Soul Nidus, the Chemistry Set, Alice Cooper and Urge Overkill. PhoenIX DJ & former RFP'er Rob Flajnik has passed.
( Vis from Andy Olson at Radio Free Phoenix & Deep Oldies.com)
Sad news to pass on, longtime Phoenix Radio DJ, Rob Flajnik passed away Sunday. Rob worked at many stations over the years including KSLX, The Edge, KOOL_FM, KUPD and many more. He was a crazy wild guy on the radio and really made a difference to those listeners that need a friend overnight for those many years on KSLX. Rob was also with Radio Free Phoenix back in 2005.
I will have a tribute to Rob, on Radio Free Phoenix this morning around 10:10 am (AZ-Pacific time). At this time will also be airing Liz Boyle's reminiscences of Rob as we both worked with him back in the glory days of KSLX! Also featured in this tribute, Rob's great impromptu interview with Joe Walsh as he dropped by the station unexpectedly back in 1987. Our thoughts also go out to Carol Springer, She grew up with Rob in Prescott and also worked with him at KSLX. As Lee Powell said, “We lost one of our own.”
Rest in Peace Rob.
