#breaking : During the early hours of Monday morning at around 2:20am Kilauea began erupting on Hawaii Island. This comes after about a three month pause according to the U.S. Geological Survey Hawaiian Volcano Observatory.
Scientists say that the new flow has already covered the previous lava lake in the area, but is currently confined to the summit caldera.
Head Scientist Ken Hon, of the USGS HVO said during a livestream, “It was a fairly rapid onset for one of these eruptions. This is the fifth eruption that we’ve had in the summit area of Kilauea since December of 2020”.
“And as you do notice, there’s some very large fountains playing in the southwest corner of Halemaumau Crater, which is in the southern half of Kaluapele, or the summit caldera of Kilauea Volcano, up here and near the main entrance of of Volcanoes National Park.”
The primary hazard of concern at this time is high levels of volcanic gas which can have far-reaching effects down-wind (generally southwest) of the summit.
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement Monday morning saying very light ashfall is expected near the volcano through at least 6 p.m.
Some flights were impacted immediately after the eruption due to the vog. “We delayed 7 inter-island departures and canceled 2 flight early this morning while we waited for weather reports from the eruption area. We were cleared to resume operations at 6:40 a.m. and accommodated guests impacted by the cancellations on later flights,” a spokesperson for Hawaiian Airlines said.

#breaking : Shortly after 3pm Tuesday, a small general aviation aircraft operated by Kamaka Air crashed near the Daniel K. Inouye Honolulu International Airport.
According to witnesses, the plane took out what appears to be a tower from a vacant building before crashing onto the ground off of Ualena and Aoelele streets, stopping just short of some nearby fuel tanks.
According to control tower recordings just shortly before the fatal crash of Kamaka Air 689, the pilots radioed, “We’re out of control here.”
Tower: Kamaka Flight 689, you’re turning right, correct?
Pilot: Kamaka 689, we are, we have, uh, we’re out of control here.
Tower: Okay, Kamaka 689, if you can land, if you can level it off, that’s fine. Any runway, any place you can do.
As of now, Honolulu International Airport remains open and flights are departing as scheduled. However, roads in the area of the crash are being closed as multiple agencies investigate the crash.
Two people have lost their lives in this tragedy.

It’s so sad watching this story from Hawaii News Now ! Shame on kapiolanimedctr for putting profits and corporate greed ahead of patient care. Our community already lost an innocent baby girl because of them locking out their nurses and now to see this happening to this poor family. We can only imagine what is happening to even more families! Many nurses affected by Kapiolani’s lockout are a part of our LGBTQ+ community and Gay Island Guide stands with them and all of the nurses affected. We appreciate the work they do for our community and we also thank the travel nurses who unfortunately are stuck in the middle of this situation.

#breaking : Hawaiian Airlines today announced it is now offering Starlink’s high-speed, low-latency Wi-Fi free of charge to guests onboard all Airbus-operated flights between the islands and the continental U.S, Asia and Oceania.
Hawaiian, which became the first major U.S. carrier to debut Starlink in February on its Airbus A321neo aircraft, has now completed Starlink installation across its 24 A330 fleet. The airline will also install Starlink on its flagship Boeing 787-9 fleet, but does not plan to deploy the service on its Boeing 717 aircraft, which is used for short flights between the islands.
Guests can easily connect to Starlink the moment they step onboard the aircraft – just as they would connect to their home internet, and experience internet at speeds suitable for working, streaming video and gaming.
“Becoming the first major airline to offer travelers Starlink at no cost is a remarkable achievement for our team, and we couldn’t be more pleased with the overwhelmingly positive response from guests who have been enjoying our industry-leading connectivity onboard,” said Evan Nomura, director of inflight entertainment and connectivity and onboard products at Hawaiian Airlines.
