As many of you may have seen on the news this week a fire in Desert Hot Springs at the Country Squire Mobile Home and RV park destroyed 9 homes and damaged 59 others and has left approximately 100 people displaced from their homes. The County still has not cleared them to return home so many of these families, including minor children, have found themselves living with family and friends. However, many are still staying at the evacuation center and receiving assistance from the Red Cross at the Desert Hot Springs High School gymnasium, having been left with only what they could grab before be forced to evacuate their homes.
The Palm Springs Unified School District has coordinated a donation drive to help these families in this time of need. People can donate funds online at secure.qgiv.com/for/familyfirefund or items by dropping them off at Desert Springs Middle School, 66-755 Two Bunch Palms Trail, nobody will be on campus today (Friday), but people can also drop off items next week, durning business hours.
Items needed most are clothing of all sizes, toiletries and things for kids to do like crayons, coloring books, games and puzzles. Funds donated online will be used to buy gift cards so families can get whatever they need.
