Gun violence is preventable…

Between 2019 and 2020, the firearm homicide rate increased about 35% and the firearm su***de rate remained high.

The largest increase in firearm homicides was among Black people (39%). The largest increase in firearm su***des was among American Indian and Alaska Native people (42%).

Nearly 5x
In 2020, counties with the highest poverty level had firearm homicide rates 4.5 times as high and firearm su***de rates 1.3 times as high as counties with the lowest poverty level.

RECAP CONTINUES TO DO GREAT THINGS IN ORANGE 🍊 COUNTY.

Guest Speaker Heather Decker told us all about our local RECAP Program. RECAP empowers people and communities challenged by poverty, racism, and social injustice by collaborating with public and private partners to provide high quality health and human services, education, advocacy, and hope. Their mission is realized when our neighbors achieve self-sufficiency. They are located at 56-58 Church Street in Port Jervis. Tina Everett, one of our members, is a teacher there. A $500.00 check from our Community Funds was donated to help Heather with their Head Start Program. PIctured L-R Tina Everett and Heather Decker.

A young man was shot and hospitalized last week. We will be having a community healing response to gather in the name of reducing violence.

We mediate conflicts working to reduce all violence with those with the highest likelihood of shooting someone or being shot.
