Presenting Prop Planes 3 HD Professional Sound Effects Library, the final installment of the propeller plane series. This library is the result of five years spent at the local airfield waiting and watching for planes. Many types of propellor airplanes were recorded in pristine 24-bit 96kHz resolution with various high end microphones and handheld recorders. Single, twin and turbo prop planes were captured at multiple distances and airspeeds. Pass bys, engine starts and stops, high RPM warm-ups, interior flight and ground taxi maneuvers are also included.

The Sound of a Aero Commander 560-A Engine

This video showcases the Sennheiser MKH8040/8030 Mid-Side microphone set. The microphones were fitted with a Rycote Cyclone wind protection blimp. I placed the microphone about10 feet in front of the engine and recorded the starting of the 270–295 hp Lycoming GO-480s engine. This plane had been having fuel tank repairs done so the start was from a cold engine.

The Sennheiser MKH8040/8030 Mid-Side microphone set audio was decoded to stereo for this video. I think it sounds fantastic!

Here is a demo of the Sennheiser MKH8040ST ORTF microphone set. Sandpoint Idaho fireworks show from 3-4 miles away. The microphones were at my home at the bottom of the hill. Check out the MKH8030 demo also! Enjoy!

This is one of the lightning strikes at the end of the storm I recorded on July 1, 2024. Notice the click in the waveform on the left, that’s the actual strike. Filled the air with current that gets into the mic capsule. There are 2 ORTF and 1 Mid-Side microphone sets recorded with a Scorpio recorder at 32-Bit Float.

Sound Devices just released the firmware update to enable the Scorpio and other 8-Series recorders to record in 32 Bit Float mode. I ran the update and all went well. I was excited to finally get have the Scorpio record in 96k/32Bit so I grabbed a HK SP5 9mm and set up a MKH8040ST XY microphone in the yard and gave it a work out.

Recorded this ambience from my back deck this morning with the Scorpio in 32 Bit Float mode. Birds are chatty and a raven lets their presence be known. Will upload it later for you all to check out. Recorded with a MKH8040 stereo pair in ORTF.
