Rain fell on Saturday, but it did little to dim the light, excitement, and tantalizing aroma of BBQ at the 13th annual Smoke on the Water held at Old Settlers Park in Lynnville last Saturday.

Last week's Hometown Press featured results of many locals at the state fair, including 16-year-olds Rhylee Rodgers and Andrew Arkema. Three of Rhylee's animals were sold at the Sale of Champions, a record for the fair. And Andrew made history by earning back-to-back Reserve Grand Champion 4-H Market Heifer, securing another spot in the Sale of Champions.

Recently, Sully First Reformed Church volunteers helped set children up for success in the new school year by organizing a Snack Pack and School Supply event. The donated items will go to AGAPE, an organization serving women and families in the Des Moines area by offering hope, practical support, education, and care.

Thanks to the generosity of Sully First Reformed members, 52 snack packs and 28 school supply bags were assembled and distributed to AGAPE families with young children.
