US Coast Guard Launches Bold New Efforts To Protect US Borders...

WASHINGTON – The Coast Guard announced immediate action on executive orders issued by the White House Tuesday.

“The U.S. Coast Guard is the world’s premiere maritime law enforcement agency, vital to protecting America’s maritime borders, territorial integrity and sovereignty,” said Adm. Kevin Lunday, the Coast Guard’s acting commandant.

“Per the President’s Executive Orders, I have directed my operational commanders to immediately surge assets—cutters, aircraft, boats and deployable specialized forces—to increase Coast Guard presence and focus starting with the following key areas:

The southeast U.S. border approaching Florida to deter and prevent a maritime mass migration from Haiti and/or Cuba.

The maritime border around Alaska, Hawai’i, the U.S. territories of Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, American Samoa, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

The maritime border between the Bahamas and south Florida.

The southwest maritime border between the U.S. and Mexico in the Pacific.

The maritime border between Texas and Mexico in the Gulf of America.

And, support to Customs and Border Protection on maritime portions of the southwest U.S. border.

Together, in coordination with our Department of Homeland Security and Department of Defense teammates, we will detect, deter and interdict illegal migration, drug smuggling and other terrorist or hostile activity before it reaches our border.”

LCG has issued a water boil advisory for Lafayette residents north of I-10.
21/01/2025

LCG has issued a water boil advisory for Lafayette residents north of I-10.

Lafayette Utilities System (LUS) has issued a Boil Water Advisory for residents and businesses in the area north of I-10.

Customers in the affected area need to vigorously boil their water for at least one (1) full minute prior to drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, using it for food prep or rinsing food. The one minute starts after water has been brought to a rolling boil.

To see if your home or business is in the affected area, please visit LUS’s Outage & Events map at https://www.lus.org/map/.

If you suspect a leak, try to identify where the leak is and turn the water off at the hand cut-off. The hand cut-off valve is found a few feet from the meter. If you cannot locate the hand cut-off valve, please dial 311.

We are asking all residential and business customers to assess their water lines for any leaks or breaks and to continue water conservation measures.

• Do not drip/run water from your faucets
• Be on the lookout for water in unexpected areas
• Report any water pooling or flooding in your neighborhood or other areas to 311

To ensure water safety and quality, the advisory will remain in effect until water pressure is normalized and collected water samples are cleared by the Louisiana Department of Health-Office of Public Health.
