Arapahoe Basin, Keystone and Breckenridge all saw snow on the upper reaches of their ski mountains, as did the higher peaks of Summit County, including Quandary Peak. A-Basin and Keystone are shooting for first tracks in October.

National Weather Service meteorologists on Thursday confirmed a light dusting on mountains west of metro Denver, including Rocky Mountain National Park.

Last year’s figure was 37% below the pandemic summer of 2020.

Usually forecasts this time of year focus on the fluctuation of El Niño and La Niña in the eastern Pacific Ocean near the equator. Last ski season played out during a weak El Niño. Currently we’re in a transitional “neutral” status, but not for long.

A 21-year-old man died after attempting to jump over U.S. 40 near Berthoud Pass Summit on Tuesday, according to the Grand County Sheriff’s Office.

The man landed on pavement after attempting to clear the width of Highway 40 in a high-risk skiing stunt at around 3 p.m., the sheriff’s office said in a news release Wednesday. He died at the scene.

Eighteen months after Colorado Parks and Wildlife terminated its contract with the company that operated the Never Summer Yurts near Walden in an embezzlement case, CPW has reached an agreement with a new concessionaire to reintroduce the yurt system there.
