FNI, is collaboration with MIC, has brought the concept of Citizen Journalist in India after succeeding in UK and US. This attempt is first of it’s kind in our country, as a citizen of India can now become a journalist. These would-be journalists get an identity card, which not only provides them recognition but also enables them to have a say in matters concerning themselves and others. Other benefits include issuing of a Press Card along with a Press sticker for their vehicle for their first-hand identity. Apart from this, the person gets a chance to meet and interact with high profile people and celebrities. Term it a “vision sharing experience”. We would also conduct workshops and classes for a citizen journalist in creative writing, camera facing and handling etc. These could be availed of at no extra cost. We would also try and assist them to coordinate as well as provide solutions to various day-to-day issues and problems. Another important aspect of the FNI and BMS collaboration is that the member would later become part of the club called Freelancers Press Club initiated by the FNI. It would be an exclusive club meant for its Citizen Journalists. The member individuals would represent his/her area and may even be promoted as area chief depending on their involvement and performance. As a member journalist one may also get the opportunity to cover various events and press conferences assigned to them from time to time. So, have a check over the environment you live in.
