Unfortunately, Tell Me More, as we have known it for several years, will no longer exist in its current form at the Push Comedy Theater.
After two years of a global pandemic, hit or miss crowds, difficulty in finding storytellers and the financial difficulties that the theater was facing, Tell Me More was no longer feasible. We're sad to see it go, but not bitter. We are so thankful.
None of us got into running a storytelling show for the money. What motivated us was the experience of seeing each other's humanity. It's been said that sometimes in describing the incredibly specific, we are able to see something universally relatable. And I think that happened at every show.
There was one night where we had a storyteller drop out and, on a whim, we asked the audience if anyone had a story that they wanted to share relevant to our theme that night. There was one gentleman there who none of us really knew but who would be there, in the crowd, every month. He was always quiet and never said a word to anyone. That particular night, he got on the stage and grabbed the mic and told everyone about being a doctor at EVMS and spoke about the powerful moment of holding his newborn son for the first time.
I don't remember every detail of his story, but I remember that, when he came off that stage, it felt like he wasn't a stranger anymore. We got to see the world through his eyes. And every show was like that. Some times it was hilariously funny, sometimes people showed a raw part of their soul, but it was all amazing.
Thanks so much for the people who've come out over the years, especially some of the people who have graced the stage multiple times. It's been an honor to share the stage with you. And thanks Push Comedy Theater for giving us that stage.
I don't know if this show will find another place to call home, or maybe become a different podcast... or if this is it, but it's been a blast.
Also, thanks to James Roach and deb markham who have been around behind the scenes making things happen. It's been a blast working with you.
THANKS
