It's going to be very humid over the next several days as the atmosphere charges up for a couple rounds of storms this week. After a widespread 1-1.5" of rain over the last couple days, dry and nice weather will be returning Friday and sticking around into the weekend. The Forked Deer River will be running high in Jackson tonight approaching the flood stage. Rain will stay away through the weekend. Some storm chances will try to return in the middle of next week. Heavy rain showers are impacting the Jackson area around 3PM and will be off and tonight and continue into the day on Thursday. Expect an additional 1/2-1" of rain with some isolated spots picking up 2 more inches by Thursday evening. The showers will be gone on Friday. Showers are starting to increase behind a weak defused warm front (pseudo-warm front) thats set up right along the I-40 corridor. Showers and perhaps a few embedded storms will focus up on the boundary, albeit in a sloppy messy manner. The main and most probable effect will be the very heavy rain along with thunder and lightning. Should a storm manage to pack a punch, the main threat would be large hail and/oror locally strong wind gusts. Wind however will be more of a problem after midnight, but not from storms, but gradient winds.

After several large supercell storms dropped up to golf ball size hail across West Tennessee between 4-7PM, the storms are beginning to weaken. There still will be a threat for some small hail or brief heavy rain north of I-40 tonight but overall the severe weather threat is low. We will continue to track these storms tonight and if they become severe we will let you know!
The partial eclipse viewable in West Tennessee will continue until around 3:15pm. Skies will remain partly cloudy during the event. We are watching several storms producing winds hail and some gusty winds tonight. The tornado threat appears to be very low but it isn't zero. A storm will move through Jackson Around 9pm, Martin around 9 PM, Henderson near 930pm. Jordan Hubbard will be keeping a close eye on things tonight, overall the storm threat is weakening quickly tonight.
Individual supercells are continuing to impact West Tennessee tonight. A couple of storms could be severe. So far the storms have just produced up to quarter size hail and wind gusts up to 60 MPH. There is a still a low threat for a tornado or two tonight so we are watching things closely. We will continue to update you on all WBBJ platforms tonight as the storms move through. The severe weather threat should wrap up between 9-10pm.
Storms are starting to fire along the I-55 corridor in AR/MO and moving into West Tennessee. We are keeping an eye on the cell currently moving into northwestern Dyer County. The timing for tonights storms is roughly 5-9 PM. It'll be quick due to the smaller warm sector of this system, however, the NWS and SPC have their eyes on us right now. A Marginal (1/5) Risk has been issued for Sunday and Monday. Both sets storms will be in the evening, so the skies north and west of Jackson should be clear enough to get a good look a the sun during the eclipse. The cold front that recently passed has swept away a lot of residual moisture, which is why the risk is currently low. We'll have a closer look at your forecast coming up at 6.
After a cold start to our Friday, it turned out to be a pretty nice afternoon. There is a better chance for frost tonight as the humidity will be a little higher, so protect those plants again. Saturday is going to be a great day, but some evening storms will try to pop up on Sunday. There is still a 50/50 chance the skies will break up enough for you to witness the eclipse in West Tennessee on Monday. Here is the animation of the Total Solar eclipse from the perspective of Jackson, TN starting at 12:40 PM, maximum coverage of 97.2% at 1:59 PM, the eclipse will end 3:16 PM CDT. Couple of notes... If can travel to the areas of 100% totality, it is absolutely worth it! I am ! But if not, we'll still have a pretty nice show over much of West Tennessee. By the way, at no point is it ever safe to look directly at the sun without your eclipse glasses in West TN (except one very small part of far NW Lake County.)
As the winds weaken some tonight and the skies become mostly clear, overnight temperatures are going to fall quickly and make it down to the mid 30s by sunrise on Friday. Spotty showers and brief downpours will continue off and on through this afternoon, especially when sun shows up and creates instability. Some showers will also have small hail with them, pea-sized... The cycle will diminish after 5 or 6 pm towards sunset...
Although the storm energy isn't very high, there is still plenty of rotation in the atmosphere in West Tennessee this evening. Although not likely, a small tornado or two cannot be ruled out this evening until the front passes. The front will move through Jackson around sunset and move past the Tennessee River a couple hours later. We are still watching everything very closely in the 7 Storm Team Weather Center. We are still watching two cells that will move through Hardin county over the next hour. If you are in Chester county, or live in areas north and west of Chester county, your severe storm threat looks to be over. The storms in Hardin County will move out by 2pm. There could be a few non severe storms along the front later this afternoon as it passes by, but we are not overly concerned for them to become strong or severe at this time. We will continue to watch things closely in the 7 Storm Team Weather Center this afternoon.
Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued. until 9:00 AM CDT. This storm is capable of frequent/continuous lightning along with torrential rain along with penny to quarter sized hail. winds of 60 mph will be possible as well.
