LATE START THURSDAY FOR BALDWIN SCHOOLS
Baldwin USD 348 will be using our late start schedule tomorrow, Thursday, January 9, 2025. Below is the message being sent to families.

Greetings Baldwin Families,

Thank you for your patience as we have navigated this significant snowstorm. Thank you to the State of Kansas, Douglas County, and Baldwin City staff for their tireless work to clear our streets. Thank you also to Mike Elliott and our Maintenance and Facilities staff for their work, along with Price Excavating to clear off our lots and prep entryways. We don't typically send messaging that says we will be in school. However, given the storm we've experienced, it seemed appropriate that we do this time.

We plan to return to school tomorrow, Thursday, January 9, 2025, utilizing our "late start" process. This means all USD 348 arrival procedures will begin two (2) hours later than typical, with school starting at 10:00 am and ending at 3:15 pm.

Baldwin Rec's Before School Care will open for those enrolled at 8:30 am.

Our transportation department will be using snow routes only. Those families who will be impacted will be notified of your alternate pick-up/drop-off location. If you are a bus family and will be driving your students to school, please contact the transportation department at 785-594-7433.

We will be exercising a slow and safe arrival. Please allow for additional time. Students will not be counted as tardy to arrive safely. Additionally, should you wish to keep your students home due to the weather-related road conditions of this storm, your student's absence will be excused. Please be sure to contact your student's school to keep them informed of your decision. Stay safe and warm.

Continued adverse road conditions and complications related to subfreezing temperatures have forced the district to cancel school tomorrow, Wednesday, January 8, 2025. The BHS home basketball games versus Tonganoxie has been postponed. Decisions regarding practices will be made by noon and communicated by coaches.

Phew. It's been an interesting year so far! It sounds like you all are taking great care of each other--shoveling driveways, pushing cars out of snow banks, etc. Thank you to the warming center staff and volunteers who have basically exhausted themselves to make sure our unsheltered neighbors have safe harbor from the dangerous cold. We realize that lots of folks are still stuck at home, but hope that as you are able to get out you might consider working a shift at a warming center. We know--this is pretty much all we have talked about since Friday. But the cold just isn't letting up at night, which means a warm and dry place is lifesaving.

CITY OF LAWRENCE NEEDS HELP AT OVERFLOW SHELTERS IMMEDIATELY

Overflow shelters are at multiple sites. Shifts are four (4) hours between 8pm and 8am.

Sign up via the United Way of Kaw Valley’s website. Volunteers must be 18 or older.
