Police are investigating an altercation that occurred around 8 p.m. on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the Walgreens on California Street in Laurel Village.

According to the San Francisco Police Department, the incident began when a customer tried to stop a suspected shoplifter inside the store. The situation escalated, and the customer was injured before the suspect fled the scene.

Paramedics treated the individual, who sustained non-life-threatening injuries and declined further medical attention.

đźš” Daly City Police Arrest Suspect in Mission Street Assault

Police in Daly City have arrested a 28-year-old San Francisco resident in connection with a violent incident that occurred on the evening of Saturday, October 11, 2025, near Mission Street and Evergreen Avenue.

Officers responded around 7:30 p.m., where they found an injured individual who was quickly transported to a local hospital for treatment. Their identity and condition have not been released at this time.

Investigators report that after the altercation, the suspect allegedly took the victim’s phone, which was later recovered by police. Following an in-depth investigation, the suspect was apprehended on October 14 and booked into the San Mateo County Jail on charges of robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities have arrested 28-year-old María Figueroa of Oakland following an investigation by the Daly City Police Department and the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office into allegations of misconduct involving a minor that reportedly occurred several years ago, between 2016 and 2018.

Figueroa was taken into custody on October 14, 2025, and booked into the San Mateo County Correctional Division. After her arrest, she was terminated from her position at a University Child Care Center in Mission Bay. Officials confirmed that the allegations are unrelated to her employment, and that she had previously passed all required background checks.

On October 17, prosecutors filed charges, and Figueroa has pleaded not guilty. Her bail has been set at $600,000 as the case moves forward.

⚖️ Former San Francisco Sheriff’s Deputy Under Investigation for Misconduct

The San Francisco Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a 33-year-old deputy, who had served just over a year, has been terminated following serious misconduct allegations involving an incarcerated individual at County Jail #2 — the city’s women’s facility located on Seventh Street.

The incident, reported on September 19, 2025, prompted the Sheriff’s Office to immediately remove the deputy from inmate contact while an internal and criminal investigation began.

By October 10, the deputy was no longer employed by the department. The Criminal Investigations Unit has since presented the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review and potential charges. The California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training has also been notified.

Authorities have confirmed that Bill Gene Hobbs, previously convicted in 2023 for multiple assault-related offenses, has reportedly been seen in San Francisco again as of Monday, October 20, 2025.

Hobbs, now 37, served time in county jail and the San Quentin Rehabilitation Center. He is required to register as a s*x offender, but officials have not confirmed whether he has done so.

Witnesses and residents have reported seeing him in several neighborhoods — including near Dolores Park, Duboce Triangle, and Fillmore Street. Law enforcement agencies have not released an official update on his current status or monitoring.

San Francisco commuters faced a tough afternoon on Wednesday, October 22, when a technical issue near Powell Station disrupted Muni Metro light-rail service.

According to SFMTA, an overhead wire went down around 2:54 p.m., forcing inbound K Ingleside trains to be rerouted. By 3 p.m., trains between Embarcadero and Caltrain Stations were completely halted.

Crews worked through the rush-hour chaos while riders switched to shuttles — leading to heavy delays downtown and congestion on the Bay Bridge.

The San Francisco Office of Labor Standards Enforcement (OLSE) found that Verve Coffee Roasters violated the city’s Health Care Security Ordinance, which requires certain employers to provide health benefits for workers.

Following an audit covering July 2022 through June 2025, Verve agreed to pay nearly $200,000 in a settlement — including back payments to 33 current and former employees. Individual amounts range from $400 to $20,000, depending on each case.

Verve, which is based in Santa Cruz and operates cafés in both San Francisco and Santa Cruz, recently faced criticism after introducing (and later removing) a 5% service fee meant to fund barista health benefits. In September, employees at several Verve locations voted to unionize with UFCW Local 5, citing concerns about pay, hours, and benefits.

On October 16, a stabbing occurred on the 2600 block of Mission Street. Thanks to quick action by the San Francisco Police Department, the suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident.

The victim, an adult male, was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officers were able to locate the suspect nearby using a description provided by dispatch.

The suspect, Silas Patino, 68, of San Francisco, was arrested and a sharp-edged weapon was seized. No further details have been released.

On October 15, 2025, a San Francisco jury found Francisco Maradiaga, 31, guilty on multiple charges, including solicitation of a minor to sell narcotics and possession for sale of fentanyl, co***ne, and m**hamphetamine.

Court testimony revealed that on March 13, 2025, SFPD officers observed Maradiaga conducting a narcotics transaction with a 15-year-old minor in the Tenderloin District. Officers recovered dozens of individually packaged drugs, including 10.6 grams of fentanyl, 10 grams of co***ne base, and 27.3 grams of m**hamphetamine, along with $879 in cash.

Assistant District Attorney Robert Miranda said, “This conviction shows that the people of San Francisco are committed to holding accountable those who traffic poison in our community.”

According to court testimony, Garcia was involved in several incidents over the past two years:

September 2023: Sold co***ne base to an undercover officer in the Tenderloin District; additional drugs and cash were found on him at the time of arrest.

February 2024: Hidden m**hamphetamine discovered during a jail search.

Athena Harven, former operations director of the nonprofit TURF (Together, United, Recommitted, Forever) in the Sunnydale neighborhood, has pleaded guilty to four counts of wire fraud in a shocking embezzlement scheme that led to the nonprofit’s closure in 2019.

TURF aimed to uplift marginalized communities through job training, education, and advocacy. Instead, Harven used her position to write over 100 unauthorized checks to herself — totaling $241,000 — which she spent on luxury shopping, travel, casinos, and even her personal bakery business.
