STATEMENT ON PA GOP POLICY COMMITTEE HEARING 2/03/25:

During fracked gas’ reign as the dominant energy source underpinning our electricity grid, two realities are impacting residents: (1) It’s unreliable when we need it most, like during brutal cold winters; and (2) it’s created sky-high electricity bills for Pennsylvanians.

The GOP Policy Committee admitted that their constituents are alarmed by high gas and electricity bills. However, the only solution this Committee offers is to do more of the same thing that got Pennsylvanians into this cost crisis – build more gas plants that would take years and do nothing to help consumers this summer.

As it stands, the Policy Committee hearing adds nothing productive to the policy debate. Pennsylvanians need ideas on the table that would truly diversify Pennsylvania’s energy mix, so we stop betting on expensive, unreliable gas.

It’s time to prioritize renewable energy—like solar — that offers more stability with less drama.
