President's Day was first to honor the birthday of U.S. President George Washington (February 22) was first celebrated as a federal holiday in the United States in the 1880s. In 1968 the holiday was adapted to also honour the birth of U.S. President Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and moved to the third Monday in February. Happy Birthday, Mr. President!

Nothing about Mardi Gras is predictable – not even the date. Unlike Christmas or the 4th of July which always fall on the same calendar day, the only thing you can count on for sure with Carnival is that Fat Tuesday will fall on, well, a Tuesday. So party it up today, tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of lent.

Brigette Briles supervises GaeLynn Brockman as she assumes her duties as the newly appointed Postal Support Employee in Woodson. Brockman's first day was July 17, 2023. Post office hours are 11-3 PM daily and 8-11 AM on Saturday.

What's up, Throckmorton! I just wanted to take a second and address some messages I have seen on Facebook about last week's paper. I apologize for the lack of more pictures from the pioneer days in last week's paper. There are many factors that come into what makes it in the paper, and last week was just a crazy week of content that had to be in there so we were limited on space. This week's paper will dedicate the whole back page and some on page 3 to run all of the Pioneer days content that didn't make it in last week's paper. I apreciate the feedback we got and I love that you care what goes in the newspaper. We want to make it the best paper possible and that is only possible through community support. We are looking for upcoming juniors for the 21-22 school year that would be interested in participating in a STEM opportunity working with NASA! It will be science, technology, engineering, and math intertwined for learning and F-U-N! Students compete online for a chance to spend two days at NASA to work with scientists and engineers planning an upcoming trip to the moon and Mars. This opportunity will help expose our students to exciting career opportunities that they could only imagine until now.
