We are ending the year with a new addition to the Mic Locker, the Soyuz 1973, LDC. This mic is great on so many sources, including vocals, and voice overs as well as guitar cabinets and acoustic instruments. It has the characteristics of a typical LDC blended with a ribbon microphone. Soyuz are known for their warm tone.

Exciting new addition to the growing gear list at MHRS. We have just added the Ampeg PF50-T all tube bass head and PF115HE cabinet. This amp has a wide range of beautiful tube amp tones with a two direct outs. That paired with any number of mic options on the air moving from that 15" speaker will give at least 3 options for blending and/or tone shaping with each recorded pass of a bass line. Just more options when you choose MHRS!

Finishing up guitars today with the Taylor 310-CE-L10 ("Nashville Strings") through the Warm Audio DI Box and lead guitar with the PRS McCarty 594 SC through the Kemper Profiler Stage! Sounding sweet already. The song being recorded was written by an old friend in Texas (Louisiana boy originally) and we are so excited to be doing this. We think it's going to be a good one for sure! Coming Soon!

Tracking some acoustic guitar this morning with the Royer ribbon into WA273 into WA-2A compressor on the neck and the WA47 into WA Tone Beast into WA-2A compressor on soundhole. Guitar is a Takamine EF508KC. Should sound very nice! Roll "Tape"!

Gonna be tracking and stacking a little acoustic guitar shortly. I will be trying a "new to me" thing referred to as "Nashville tuning". I've been planning to do this for some time, but today is the day. I will let y'all know how it turns out. I will be playing the Taylor 310-CE-L10 Limited Edition using a blend of the internal pickup into a direct box and a Royer R10 ribbon mic (excellent on acoustic) at approx. the 12th fret at a 45° angle to the sound hole! It will be strung with D'Addario High Strung/Nashville Tuning .010 - .027 (only 1 wound string, the .027 Low... er high E string). The guitar players who have never seen or done this just experienced something like brain freeze! LOL

This week we added another microphone to the mic locker. The Shure SM7B, coupled with the Cloudlifter makes for a great combination. This mic, with the bass rolloff and mid boost really is impressive and works well on my voice. It has been a studio workhorse over the years from Metallica, to the complete Michael Jackson Thriller album. It is just another tool in our ever growing "toolbox" to help you achieve the best sound you can get for a very reasonable price.

Shure Beta 52 inside kick, Royer R10 ribbon mic outside kick, Shure SM57 bottom snare, Telefunken M80SH top snare, Telefunken M81SH mics on toms, Rode NT5 Overheads in "XY" configuration, 2 Rode NT1 mics set up in Glyn Johns Method, We will be trying a Sennheiser 421 for a room mic, but may end up changing to other microphones.

One of the most dreaded tasks of recording is lugging your drums to the studio, set up, setting up microphones and levels, not to mention the tear down and pack back home. All of this eats into valuable time that could be used recording. Here at MHRS we are pleased to announce we have an in-house kit available. Drummers can contact the studio to discuss any specials details or setups, such as their own cymbals, snare(s) or pedals they may want to use. Otherwise, just bring your drummer and his sticks and let him record on our dw performance series kit. Quality instruments and microphones translate to quality recording projects. Give us a call.

We are getting ready to start putting some finishing touches on some of Dan Davis' songs. There are still tracks to be recorded, due to rewrites and arrangement changes. But this is going to be music that has been thought out and quality time spent getting it right! This has been one of the most exciting times of my 30 plus years playing and recording music.

Had a good afternoon recording, on 03-20-21, with Dan and Chad. On Chad's kit we used 13 microphes. Three of these mics were set up in a mic technique called the "Glyn Johns Method". Engineer Glyn Johns used this technique in the studio on many famous bands. Needless to say, we have two more ppl that believe in this technique.

All the pre session work is done. At noon O'clock we will start our session, laying drum and bass tracks down on 5 songs currently being recorded by Dan Davis! Dan has recorded in Muscle Shoals and in Nashville as well as toured with some pretty famous musicians. It has been a great learning experience and pleasure working with Mr.. Davis who is an excellent musician and song writer. Today, Chad Betts will be on drums.

Got Mr. Dan Davis in the studio laying down some scratch tracks. This session on Friday was the maiden voyage of the two, brand new, Royer R10 mics. Excellent sounding mics. More coming very soon from Mr. Davis. Nothing like working with a true professional.
