Once used for cargo like coffee, cotton, fruit and other breakbulk commodities, goods were handled by hand. Hard working Longshoremen have been serving the needs of customers since the opening of the Houston Ship Channel in 1914.

Today 99% of cargo at this Port’s still handled by hand, operating as the national leader for breakbulk cargo. Cargo ⛴️ ⚓

The Port's infrastructure and equipment are well-equipped to handle the unique requirements of breakbulk cargo, such as heavy-lift cranes and specialized storage areas.🪈
