The Potter Park Zoo continues to be one of the most enjoyable places to visit in Lansing during any time of year. It is open 364 days per year and each season brings different animals to different kinds of behaviors. How does short days, cold temperatures, snow and ice change the experience at the zoo? Think about how just the time change effects people! To answer these and other questions, listen Saturday at 9AM as Rick Preuss from Preuss Pets, Doctor Will Schultz, DVM (retired) and Lee Cohen get the answers from some returning guests. First up is Mariah Martinez, Equity and Engagement Program Manager as she discusses all the different programs and events that go on at the zoo during the holidays and the opportunity they offer to spend time outdoors, getting exercise and enjoying some animals who are at their peak in cold weather! Kangaroos for example, imagine that!! Then Pat Fountain, Animal Care Supervisor returns to discuss how the seasonal changes impact on animal behavior and animal care. Some animals will be less active during winter while others thrive. Learn about the new care facility that is being built to care for the different animals and help with keeping AZA accreditation which the zoo recently received again. Pat also discusses how the care rituals change based on these seasonal changes with amounts of food, exercise etc. If you love zoos and you want to understand how winter can change the experience, you will enjoy this weekend's edition of the Mid Michigan Pet Expert Talk Show on 1320 AM WILS on the radio.
