We came across this ad that Chanel posted, which was...strange. It's always frustrating to see massive brands miss the mark when it should seem obvious to tell the difference between what's engaging and what's cringey.

Technology and internet trends are changing at a faster and faster pace, so it's more important than ever to build a presence across as many platforms and mediums as possible. It's almost impossible to predict what the next major social media platform will be - who's to say that Facebook or Instagram won't fade into obscurity in a few years? If you can ride on this ever-changing wave and roll with the punches while maintaining a presence across multiple outlets, you'll never have to worry about drowning in the sea of content that's out there. Diversify!

In any type of interaction or relationship, people appreciate and respect when you're real with them. Social media changed everything. All of a sudden we became inundated with free content. Free education. Free motivation. Free entertainment. I completely changed the path that I was on simply by discovering interests I didn't know I had. All through the internet and social media. I learned everything I know about filmmaking on YouTube. I've never taken a marketing class. We can do what we do because we're practitioners. We use these platforms and we've spent our lives becoming accustomed to them. You can do, be, or make content about WHATEVER you want. So go break the rules!!

It's not as simple as posting one video across every platform. Culture changes from platform to platform. People don't interact on Facebook the same way they do on YouTube. The language is different. You can't post your 3 minute Facebook video on Instagram. The upload requirements are different. Each platform has a culture. If you don't familiarize yourself with them, you'll stick out like a sore thumb!

In a world of content that's more saturated than ever before, it's easy to become discouraged from creating your own content. It seems as if everything's already been done and tried, which is somewhat true - BUT! Put yourself out there anyways! You are you, which means that your content is inherently different from everyone else's.

It's easy to feel like you shouldn't make a video that sounds similar to a video you've made in the past. In reality, why not?? If what you're saying brings value to people and you deliver it well, there's no reason to think that your audience can't benefit from seeing a similar concept a second or even a third time. Sometimes, it takes at least that amount of reptition before it's in our heads!

Getting involved in your local community is a great way to keep fresh content ideas flowing. Be the resource for what's going on in your area! It's a great way to build and audience and get your name out there. People are much more likely to watch a recap video of a street festival than that product advertisement you were thinking of posting.

Producing business content on social media is all about adding value for your audience and not intruding on their user experience. Facebook designs their algorithms to reward such behavior by a business. If you put lengthy logos or intro slates at the start of your videos, getting in the way of the content the video intends to deliver, you will lose attention. You don't have to plaster your logos all over your content.

Content for your business page doesn't just mean content about your business. You have other interests and hobbies or other passions. All those things make you who you are. None of that is off-limits when it comes to creating content for your business. The more people can get to know you, the better!

Learning about doing isn't the same thing as doing. This held me back when I first started this company. I thought I would be able to gain perspective by preparing and learning more before I actually did it. Nothing could have prepared me. Learning to ski was one of the clearest illustrations of this. It helped me learn not to wait and that experience is the only true teacher. Don't wait to start creating content until you think you're "prepared." You won't be. Start now.

Every business has to sell. Including us. But it's the value you provide to a person and the relationship you establish FIRST that determines how well a sales offer will be received. Nobody likes a blatant cold email or phone call that doesn't offer anything in the way of personal connection, especially when it comes to social media.

Phone cameras are so good these days, you don't need to get caught up in a lack of production equipment! It doesn't matter if you don't have fancy cameras or editing software. Sometimes, the more raw and real, the better! Just start. We're going to be producing some phone-only content in the near future to demonstrate this. DON'T FORGET! We're going to be giving a workshop on January 24th at 6PM!! It's all going down at WorkSmart- 3 Warren St. in Glens Falls! We'll be diving into the details and elaborating on much of the content you've seen in the Daily Doses so far. But I'm most excited for the Q&A portion, where we'll be helping you with ideas on how to apply the principles to your business! There is a $10 admission fee to help cover WorkSmart's cost of hosting and providing refreshments. WorkSmart members get in free! Hope to see you there!!
