Please help us congratulate Andrea Cook on three years with Social Kat! 🎉👏 Time flies! I've known Andrea for many years and always noticed how she was a hard worker who was extremely creative and kind. So, when the opportunity arose for us to work together, I immediately said yes! To this day we have been able to work together and grow one of our largest accounts. It's been such a joy working with Andrea on a daily basis and watching her grow as a social media manager and grow as a mom of two.

The best part about working for Social Kat is the flexibility. The ability to work, serve a purpose, get those creative juices flowing, but most importantly, the ability to be flexible and be a mom. 🩷

What a fun night of art and fashion at Fashion in Bloom at Union in downtown Rockford. 💐✨ I’ve had the pleasure of working with Carrie and Sarah at RAM this past year, and promoting this event, and their amazing artists, has been fun and rewarding. So glad my sister-in-law Laura and I could attend last night’s fashion show! 💫

Downtown Rockford is full of creativity with live murals being painted, live music, a free activity tent for kids to make hats, sand art and other creations, food trucks, beer, vendors and so much more! We’ve had so much fun promoting this event and working with the GoRockford’s team. They sure know how to throw a party! 🎉 👏🏼

SwedishAmerican always holds a place in my heart. 🫶🏼 I worked at Swedes (now ) for five years, had my babies at Swedes during that time, met so many people, learned so much and grew in my career. And now I’m back, working alongside the crew at (SAHF).

Both and I manage SAHF’s social media channels and yesterday we had the pleasure of attending SAHF’s ribbon cutting event.

SAHF rebranded and is poised to make an even greater impact on patient care through innovative fundraising efforts to support remarkable health care here in northern Illinois. Plus, all dollars stay here to fund the critical facilities, services and investment necessary to save lives and provide remarkable care, close to home.

Love spending time with realtors! 🤗 We had a social media refresh and talked all things Instagram Reels. It feels like I just chatted with this group but the world of social media is ever changing and as we all know, so overwhelming. Hopefully our chat helped inspire them and remind them that social media is not rocket science.

Here are a few tips to help inspire you, too! 👇🏼
▪️Post 3-4 times per week. Just stay consistent whatever you do. Don’t go crazy then ghost your pages, consistency is key.
▪️Plan ahead and schedule in content! Can’t stress it enough.
▪️Play around with IG Reels. Take video, tell your story, don’t be afraid to get in front of the camera. People want raw, they want authentic, they want funny. Have fun with it and see how they go. You never know, one of your Reels could take off and gain you a whole bunch of new followers (I’ve seen it happen recently with a client).

It's been so fun watching Justine at BEAM beauty+wellness grow her business, and grow it so quickly! She went from a small space to now owning and renovating a building in downtown Oregon, IL and adding three individuals to her team!

While we certainly can't take all of the credit, we know from experience how important it is to be consistently active on social media. Today I had the pleasure of speaking to the PR class. Big thanks to for asking me and for always being such a good friend and cheerleader. The group was small but mighty and asked a ton of great questions about PR and social media. They all aspire to go far in life. One wants to go into fashion, another wants to work in Hollywood, one wants to be a media journalist and another one wants to go into advertising.

I love when I can share my journey with students because it felt like yesterday I was in their seat! My advice to those who are just getting started, network, network, network. Work hard, be flexible and patient. Hard work and who you know pays off!

It’s always a treat when we get to meet with the ladies. We laugh, we brainstorm and sometimes we cry. Kelli and Tammy, along with their wonderful volunteers, are truly doing some amazing work and the organization keeps growing. With a goal to help grant wishes to cancer patients ages 18-24, they currently have 50 wishes in waiting and the wishes keep coming in. It’s and mines job to raise awareness about Nik’s Wish through PR and social so that cancer patients are aware of this great opportunity but businesses and funders are also aware.

If you or your business enjoy giving joy to those who need it most, we encourage you to consider learning more about Nik’s Wish. The organization grants wishes that run the gamut, gifting gaming computers, concert tickets, meet and greet events with celebrities, and even vacations. 💙💛

With the help of Lindsay Scheidell from Hadley PR, we were able to share this fun + timely story about an Alabama cancer patient whose one wish was to attend a Taylor Swift concert in LA. ✨Worked with 42 clients (9 PR and 33 social media clients)
✨Grew Facebook followers for all clients by 15,888 (up 1,418 from last year)
✨Organically grew Instagram followers for all clients by 5,711
✨Collaborated with 9 freelancers who did amazing work for our clients
✨Conducted numerous speaking engagements
✨Amped up our Instagram Reels skills. For one client we garnered 179,400 minutes (2,373 hours) views (an increase of 3,349% from 2022)
✨And so much more...

Four years ago in January I quit my full time job to work solely on Social Kat. Four years later I couldn’t be happier with that decision. 🩷

In four years I have…
✨Spent SO much more time with my kids, husband, family and friends
✨Gained confidence, new skill sets and challenged myself
✨Had many sleepless nights thinking about clients, work that needs to be done, to do’s I need to check off
✨Kept up to date with the ever changing social media platforms, particularly IG Reels
✨Met so many wonderful people through clients and networking
✨Traveled more due to my flexible schedule
✨Grew nearly all of my client accounts month after month after month (and still going strong)
✨Met amazing freelancers who have turned great friends
✨Lost clients, gained clients, turned clients away because I’m still learning and trying to continue to figure out this crazy industry every single day
✨Felt so so grateful for ALL of the support I’ve received in four years

They say fake it till you make it and even though I’m four years in I’m still learning, still growing and still making mistakes. But you know what, if you never try and you’ll never know what you’re truly capable of doing! Starting a business was always on my mind. Actually doing it, and doing it successfully, is a pretty amazing feeling. It takes a village and I’m thankful for you all! 🫶🏼

I remember when I was in high school. I thought I wanted to be a nurse, just like my mom. I was always so proud when she'd rush to help someone who was hurt or not feeling well. I wanted to explore it further and thankfully through my high school, I had the opportunity to shadow a nurse in the clinic and hospital setting. After a long day of seeing the ins and outs of being a nurse, I knew in my heart it wasn't for me. I was bummed that day. My dreams shifted, but I was so thankful for that opportunity.

Fast forward to today. I eventually found my "dream" job and now I'm always willing to make myself available and allow young students to job shadow me. It was a pleasure meeting one particular Winnebago High School student this past month and teaching her everything there is to know about social media management.

It’s been four years since I started Social Kat. 🤗 Never did I imagine I’d own my own business and love what I do every single day. Little did that young girl who graduated during a recession who got a job at the RACVB, working at the Community Information Center selling VanGalder bus tickets starting at 3 am, know that she’d manage nearly 30 clients and 5 freelancers one day.

Big thanks to my clients for supporting, trusting me and joining me on this ride. And a huge thanks to my freelancers who are fun, hard working, motivated and great content creators! Couldn’t do it with ya, Megan, Andrea, Renee, Lana and Cassie!

If you’re currently “stuck” or trying to figure out your next steps, my advice is to keep working hard, believe in yourself, find good mentors, build a network and go for it! 💕

I love finishing out the week with strong stats! This week has certainly been a busy one! With Stroll on State quickly approaching, onboarding two new clients, Reels creation, ads creation, content creation, mentoring local high school students, business luncheons and more, we’re thankful it’s the weekend!
