The Good Life Publisher - Teresa Myers
Editor - Brock Hires One of our guidelines is that we only report on local people — folks from Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties.

This is the page for The Good Life magazine that carries personal adventure stories of people living in Chelan, Douglas and Okanogan counties in Washington. The world is a big, beautiful place — we like to find people who are stepping off the usual path in one way or another to find adventure in their lives. Our idea is this: a Good Life is more of a journey, not a destination. The storie

s that our local peers and community members have, all experienced here in our big backyard of nature and concrete jungles, are ripe with inspiration, passion and creativity. Other media outlets have the time, ability and drive to go all around the world and back with stories on war, famine, natural disasters, crime and sadness. We go right down the street and find our neighbors who are doing something extraordinary that might inspire you to take your own adventure and share it with others. Our contributor's, the backbone of this publication along with our readers, tirelessly search for that adventurous individual, that kind volunteer, the passionate artist, and gather them into fun, inspiration and extremely well written stories for you all to read. We're all in search of a good life, at the very least a better one, and we hope the stories, art and people in our magazine help inspire you for continued growth. Where or when you start doesn't matter, as it's not about the finish line. Remember to soak in the world and life around you, find time to destress and relax, then find that time to pursue your dreams, because the Good Life isn't a destination, but a journey in of itself.

For Immediate Release: Safety Measures in Place at Wenatchee Valley Humane Society to Protect Cat Population
WENATCHEE, WA – MAY 30 2025 - Feline Panleukopenia (also called Feline Distemper) cases are on the rise in the Wenatchee area. Panleukopenia is a viral disease that is contagious amongst cats but is not contagious to dogs or to people. Kittens under 6 months are the most susceptible to panleukopenia, but unvaccinated adult cats can also contract the virus. Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, and fever. If your cat or kitten develops any of these symptoms, it is important to seek veterinary care right away.
Panleukopenia is life threatening.
The incubation period (time from exposure to symptoms) is usually 2-14 days. It is spread primarily by the fecal/oral route, but can also spread through fomites such as clothing, hands, bedding, and food bowls. Cats and kittens can shed the virus for 2-3 days prior to developing symptoms. This virus is quite durable in the environment and can persist for months or even years.
What We Are Doing
In an effort to save as many lives as possible WVHS is taking the following steps:
1. Starting May 30, 2025 WVHS will not intake owner-surrendered kittens for a two-week period. This safety measure will end June 13, 2025 if the occurrence of infectious illness has slowed.
2. Starting May 30, 2025 WVHS will not intake owner-surrendered adult cats for a one-week period. This safety measure will end June 6, 2025 unless there is need to extend this due to increased illness.
3. Until further notice, WVHS will only accept sick and/or injured stray cats and kittens from jurisdictions where we have an Animal Care & Control contract.
4. We are seeking temporary foster homes for healthy adult cats. If you can foster an adult cat to help us keep cattery rooms open for treating sick or injured cats, call or text (509) 312-8681 to connect with a member of our foster team.
5. Vaccination with the FVRCP (feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia) is highly effective at preventing Feline Panleukopenia infection. Kittens require a series of vaccines, while adult cats usually require vaccination every 1-3 years after their initial series. WVHS is offering free FVRCP vaccines for cats owned by income-qualified families on Fridays throughout June. You can schedule an appointment at www.wenatcheehumane.org/clinic.
What You Can Do
1. Vaccinate your cats. WVHS is offering free FVRCP vaccines for cats owned by income-qualified families on Fridays throughout June. You can schedule an appointment at www.wenatcheehumane.org/clinic.
2. Foster a healthy adult cat. Call or text (509) 312-8681 to connect with a member of our foster team.
3. Adopt a healthy kitten or adult cat now.
4. Don’t bring strays to the shelter to avoid potential exposure to the virus. Remember that healthy, social outdoor cats are probably owned cats with access to the outdoors. It’s best to leave them where they are living.

Learn to Spot Noxious W**ds in Our Foothills
Wenatchee, WA — What do scentless mayw**d, yellow star thistle, and jointed goatgrass all have in common? They’re aggressive noxious w**ds that pose serious threats to our native shrub-steppe plant communities—and we don’t want them spreading through our Wenatchee Foothills.
To help combat these invasive species, the Chelan-Douglas Land Trust (CDLT) is partnering with the Chelan County Noxious W**d Board to offer a free, hands-on Noxious W**d Identification Workshop on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 5:00–7:00 PM at the Saddle Rock Trailhead covered shelter, 1130 Circle Street, Wenatchee.
Led by Noxious W**d Board Coordinator Adam Pfleeger and Field Supervisor Jenna Medlar, this informative workshop will help participants learn to recognize the most problematic noxious w**ds found in our region, especially those that thrive following wildfire. The session will feature fresh samples for hands-on learning, and all participants will receive a free w**d identification booklet to take home.
“Understanding how to identify and report noxious w**ds is one of the most important steps in protecting our natural areas,” said Ryan McGrew, CDLT’s Land Manager.
This event is open to all ages. Registration is appreciated but not required—those who register will receive a reminder email two days before the event. To sign up, visit: https://www.cdlandtrust.org/outings-events/events/noxious-w**d-workshop

Leavenworth Farmers Market Opens on May 31st

On Saturday, May 31st, the Leavenworth Community Farmers Market opens for its 17th season. The Farmers Market is located at Lions Club Park between the Pool and Library and will run every Saturday from 9am - 1pm until October 11th.

Each market day will feature fresh Washington grown produce including vegetables, fruit, berries, flowers and so much more as well as handcrafted artisan goods and art from our area. Back for a third season, Olive Tree Bakery will return with the fresh croissants and breads worth lining up for. Meanwhile, the many returning farmers plan to bring new products this year, including eggs from Watkins Farm Foods! Markets also include live music from 9:30am to 1pm and a monthly Kids Market section, creating a free opportunity for creative youth to be the vendors in their own market.

The Farmers Market is conveniently located at a Link Transit bus stop, it has plenty of customer parking for both cars and bikes, and accepts numerous currencies, including credit cards, SNAP EBT, SUN Bucks, and Senior and WIC Farmers Market Nutrition Programs (FMNP). The Market also doubles the value of SNAP EBT and SUN Bucks up to $25/day, ensuring that it is as affordable as possible for all our community members to shop local.

The Leavenworth Market is run by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit, Cascade Community Markets, who coordinate all the preparation behind the scenes for both Leavenworth and Cashmere Farmers Markets. From insurance and permitting to marketing, scheduling, and sales tracking, the small staff has a big job each year. The organization has launched an online Limited Edition T-Shirt Fundraiser, open now until June 3rd, featuring custom artwork by local farmer, Kim Nelson. The fundraiser aims to promote shopping local and eating fresh, while raising funds to operate the two farmers markets this season.

Plus, save the date for the 10th Annual Farm to Table Dinner Fundraiser on August 22nd! This incredible event offers a six-course dinner prepared by six local chefs and paired with local wines. It features as much local produce as possible, a farm walk, live music, and a large silent auction. Ticket sales begin June 21st and often sell out within a month. All proceeds support the operation of the local markets with the first $5,000 raised going directly to grants for market farms.

The Market is always seeking new vendors, both farms and artisans, and applications are open through August 31st. You can sign up to be a vendor, support the fundraiser, or learn more about your local Farmers Markets at CascadeMarkets.org.
