Episode 48: Sandwich Tax

In October 2019, 22-year-old Allyzibeth “Ally” Lamont was brutally murdered by her employer, Georgios Kakavelos. Ally, a bright young woman growing up in Johnston, NY, and working at the Local No. 9 deli shop owned by Kakavelos, was having issues getting paid by her con artist boss. The children's book, Spider and the Fly, holds a special place on my bookshelf and in my heart. Every year, when my daughters were little – and even now to some extent – we looked forward to the comforting yet eerie nostalgia that autumn breezes brought in, including our traditional trip to the bookstore.

The children's section would be filled with vibrant and cozy books, full of happy little ghosts and friendly, smiling jack-o-lanterns. But during one of our visits, a particular book caught my eye. Its black-and-white charcoal drawings depicted a sinister spider bowing to a beautiful, unsuspecting fly. This book quickly became a weekly favorite bedtime read throughout my kids’ childhood, and it's still one that brings back cherished memories for us to laugh about and love today.

Looking back, I had no idea that a simple bookstore visit with my daughters would come full circle, allowing me to share this story with thousands of people across the World Wide Web. More importantly, I couldn’t have imagined the impact it might have—helping to raise awareness about the importance of protecting children from predators, and perhaps even saving lives.

If you haven’t yet experienced the spooky delights of Spider and the Fly, I hope you find time to enjoy the beauty of its illustrations and the valuable lessons the story imparts. You can find the book listed in my Amazon book club link here: https://amzn.to/46PPhPz 💜

New Episode! Ep. 46: Constitutional Confusion

It can often take years for courts to catch up to technology and often it’s the technology law enforcement has been using for decades to solve heinous and brutal crimes. But what happens when a court decides that the investigative process law enforcement has been so reliant on is alarmingly illegal?

In this episode, we follow the murder of Nancy Woodrum and take a critical look at every aspect of the Fifth Circuit Court’s decision to rule Google Geofencing a violation of American privacy rights and unconstitutional. This discussion also considers how the ruling will reach investigative technology that has not been challenged in the courtroom, such as law enforcements use of Tower Dumps for cell phone tracking and the use of Genetic Genealogy without search warrants.

Leaving a Relationship Centered Around Coercive Control:

Leaving a relationship centered around coercive control or physical abuse can be extremely dangerous for the victim. For their partner, the thought of losing control and power is unbearable, and they may go to extreme lengths to reassert their dominance.

Over time, friends and family might become fatigued from hearing the same fears and complaints, questioning why the victim doesn’t just leave. It’s important to remember that the victim must relinquish everything about the life they know, with strategies akin to a military operation.

I selected [www.womenslaw.org](https://www.womenslaw.org/) because it offers plain language legal guidance that victims can use to build their leave plan. While the site was created for women, the strategies and legal considerations are also applicable to men leaving unhealthy relationships.

With love,

Keri

Understanding and Creating Healthy Relationships:

Building healthy relationships should start with our first relationship. As parents and caregivers, we can do our best to teach our teens everything we know, but it’s also important to give them access to resources they can explore on their own terms.

I selected www.loveisrespect.org as a comprehensive resource for Socialite Crime Club parents and teen caregivers for several reasons.

First, the site is mobile-friendly and highly responsive, featuring quick exits for teens who may need to reference the site discreetly if they find themselves in an uncomfortable situation.

I appreciate the plain language used to address the vulnerabilities of a teen audience, offering them common-sense safety rules they can immediately apply to their young relationships. More importantly, these relationship best practices can be carried into their adult dating lives.

The site’s intuitive design provides easy access to important topics such as Physical Boundaries, Digital Boundaries, Financial Boundaries, and Emotional Boundaries—all essential for the future health of their intimate relationships.

Whether you’re ensuring your teen has access to safe relationship information or striving to end generational violence, I hope we can help our Socialites set young adults on a path to a lifetime of healthy relationships. I believe this site is a valuable starting point for any teen you know.

With love,

Keri
