The Paul A. & Veronica H. Gross Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida, located in Venice, Florida, is hosting its First Annual Wildlife 50/50 Raffle Drawing!

Now through September 1, only 1,000 tickets priced at $50 each will be sold. Ten monthly drawings of $2,500 each will be held, with the first drawing set for October 1, 2024. Winning tickets will go back "into the pot" for more chances to win!

Total prize opportunities are $25,000!

Money raised will provide treatment and care for the wildlife recovering in the Wildlife Center of Southwest Florida’s hospital and rehabilitation center.

It's the first day of July and you know what that means: The brand-new issue of Suncoast Pet is now online!

And for our official summer issue, we have not one, but two rescued Pitties—Charlotte and Louie—featured on the cover of the July/August issue!

These Palmetto pups, who are the beloved companions of Patti and David Johnson, were both adopted from the Second Chance Adoption Center at Humane Society of Manatee County (HSMC) in Bradenton.

And it is because of HSMC that Charlotte and Louie are featured on the cover in this spectacular photograph taken by Sherri Krams of Moments Unleashed by Sherri Krams Photography.

Back in March, Suncoast Pet donated the cover of the July/August issue as a special silent auction prize at Paws in Motion, HSMC's largest fundraiser of the year. Patti entered the highest bid and won not only the cover, but also an article in this issue and an 11 x 14-inch canvas of the final cover.

Despite the fact that Charlotte and Louie were adopted nearly six years apart, from the moment they met, the pups became the best of pals.

A day late...but worth the wait! The May/June issue of Suncoast Pet is now online!

And what a beautiful rescue kitty we have pictured on the cover of our early summer issue, thanks to the extraordinary talent of Sherri Krams of Moments Unleashed by Sherri Krams Photography.

Meet Matilda, a 17 1/2-year-old cat that was found living alone in a Sarasota home that had supposedly been abandoned by the tenant.

After a neighbor spotted the kitty sitting in a window, Dylan Jon Wade Cox, a talented photographer and videographer who lives nearby, sprang into action. He climbed through a window to search the home until he found the cat hiding in a closet.

That was two years ago.

Realizing that the cat’s chances of being adopted at the age of 15 ½ were slim to none, Dylan decided to keep the kitty, and he and Matilda have been together ever since.

With 16,000-plus followers on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/djwcphoto) and nearly 6,500 followers on Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/djwcphoto), Dylan has made Matilda into a social media celebrity with his impromptu images of his favorite feline! Most Saturdays, he posts photos of the kitty or selfies with “Tildie” by his side on both social media platforms in celebration of “Caturday.”

UPDATE: As many of you are aware, Suncoast Pet recently celebrated it's 17th anniversary...
..Will there be an 18th anniversary celebration?

The future of your regional pet publication is in serious jeopardy as the defamation suit filed against the magazine, me personally and the mom of Candy, the dog that was shot and killed for barking in November 2017—7 years ago—lingers on nearly two years after the civil lawsuit was first filed.

The case was originally supposed to be heard in December 2023, but the killer's attorney postponed the case until September 2024. And, to make matters worse, punitive damages have also been added to the $150,000 PLUS attorney fees that is on the line, should we lose the case that will be decided by a jury.

We now have more than $30,000 in legal fees, which are likely to double by the time the case is heard in court six months from now.

WE DESPERATELY NEED HELP.

There have been other widely publicized defamation cases making headlines in the past year. Our case is NOT one of them. Candy's killer was NEVER named in Suncoast Pet or on social media platforms. Other media outlets in our community named the killer on the air and in print and even named his city of residence. WE DID NOT. They are not being sued. WE ARE.
