Bernie Sanders! He would have beaten Trump when he was squeezed out of the nomination, and he would beat him now. When are we gonna get it together and nominate somebody who has some kind of an energetic view on politics?

There was a Celebration of Life for Tom Prasada-Rao today. It was beautiful and moving. I now feel ready to say a little bit more about my Tom. A group of Charlottesville, VA friends, and I, brought him to play here quite a few times through the years. We all became close.

Since Tom passed away, FB has been full of posts about his music and the beauty of his spirit. Here are a few things about Tom, that many of you may not know. Charlottesville was sort of like his home away from home. For seven years, he taught songwriting at UVa, to high school students in the summer, through a program called the Young Writers Workshop. The program taught all kinds of writing, and songwriting was just a part of it. The students lived in a dorm at UVa, while they were engaged in the program. During all those summers at least once each year, Tom would host a dinner and gathering for his Charlottesville friends. He would cook Indian food, and invite people from this area for a really fun social evening. We always looked forward to this evenings!

Once, when Tom was here to give a concert, he also gave a songwriting workshop at my house. Watching him interact with the participants was sort of magical. He instilled them with a kind of confidence, and would help them express their gifts, in any way that he could. He would jump right in, accompanying them on guitar, for example, encouraging them to sing, and making their song sound like a finished product. During the workshop, Tom said that his favorite influence in songwriting was Jimmy Webb. He considering Jimmy to be one of the finest writers of popular songs in our lifetime.

I always thought of Tom, as the master of the bridge in songs. He was the best at bridges, that I have ever heard, finding just the right words, and a melody for the bridge, that really worked with the rest of this song. Many people know that he won a lot of awards from the Washington Area Music Association.(Wammies), but I doubt most of you are aware that Tom won “Best Male Vocalist” 10 years in a row. To me, that is totally amazing!!

Tom wrote tons of world class songs, but his album “Hear You Laughing” is on my top 10 favorite album list of all time. It took a lot of time for me to convince him that I wasn’t joking about that.

RIP my good friend Tom!

Tom Prasada-Rao has left this world. I don’t know if I can express right now what his life and friendship have meant to me. Many of us have been touched by his music. Let’s leave it there for right now…

I am remembering when the Acoustic Muse Concert Series, here in Charlottesville, Virginia, brought Dougie McLean to play at Star Hill Music Hall. I did the booking for that show. It was the last stop on Dougie’s US tour that year, and he was exhausted. Still, when he took the stage, he put on a spectacular concert. Everyone I have ever talked to about the concert really enjoyed themselves, and our staff was thrilled with the whole event!

I’m thinking that the concert was around 2000, or 2001. I used to have very good records of all that, but they were destroyed. Anyway, the Scottish legend Dougie MacLean is a one of a kind artist!!

I’ve been listening to an archived radio show of John Hill’s Acoustic Muse, which aired back in January of 2023. It’s a tribute to David Crosby, and I produced it just a week or two after David passed away.

I think it’s one of the best radio shows I’ve ever done, and I want to make the archived program available to anyone who’d like to listen. It’s free, and listening won’t subject you to any marketing, or personal inquiries of any kind—just music.

The show is available at: https://acoustic-muse.mixlr.com/recordings/2012239 I hope you enjoy it!

I went on the Internet radio this afternoon, and broadcast an hour and a half of music. No talk, because my mic and mic stand are at home. Some of the music was picked, and some was conjured from my iTunes library in shuffle play. I was happy to be playing music, I had a few listeners, and the music took me away to a much more peaceful balanced place. All hail to the great musicians we were listening to!!!
