Yesterday, North Mahaska junior Trace Goemaat's wrestling season came to a close as he fell in both of his matches of the Iowa High School Wrestling State Tournament.

Goemaat finished his junior season with an overall record of 37-11 with his second consecutive State Tournament appearance.

State Bound!!

For the second year in a row, Trace Goemaat will carry the North Mahaska banner into the Iowa High School State Wrestling Tournament starting this Thursday.

Goemaat finished second in the Iowa Class 1A District 7 (285 pound) tournament earlier today to punch his ticket.

Yesterday during the Iowa Class 1A Sectional 14 Tournament, Paul DeJong (132) and Trace Goemaat (285) won championships in their respective weight classes.

Their victories earned them a spot in the District Tournament this coming Saturday in Wapello, where their teammate Michael DeJong (145) will join them after finishing second in his tournament.

The Mahaska Chamber and Development Group in partnership with the City of Oskaloosa and Mahaska County is conducting a survey to determine the needs for additional senior housing and personal care options in Mahaska County. Participation in the mailed survey will give Mahaska County area seniors and their families a voice in determining future housing alternatives currently being considered.

Iowa High School Baseball Coaches association released its all-district teams this week. Four North Mahaska players earned honors on the first or second team. One player, Ty Kelderman, was named to the all-state Academic First Team.

NM Students Perform “High School Musical” This Weekend

North Mahaska High School students will take to the stage this weekend a year after the show was first cast. NM will present Disney’s “High School Musical, Junior” under the direction of Tara Carrico and Jenna Hibler.

The musical will be performed Friday, March 12 and Saturday, March 13. Both performances will begin at 6:30 p.m. in the high school auditorium.
