Here are some pictures from my podcast at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center in Casper Wyoming. This is an amazing museum covering the trails coming west in the eighteen hundreds. The Oregon trail, the Mormon trail, The Pony Express, ect. Reid Was my host and has worked at the museum for many, many years. He was so knowledgeable about all things regarding westward expansion. This podcast was very fun for me because we covered so many different things, besides just the museum. I learned so much from Reid, and also from the different displays that they had at the museum. This one is well worth your time if you are ever in the Casper Wyoming area. Don't miss it.

Here are some photos from my latest podcat at Mad Dog and the Pilgrim bookstore at Sweetwater Junction. Wyoming.
This, this is an amazing bookstore over 70,000 books, In the middle of absolutely nowhere. (40 miles to the nearest town)I have wanted to go to this bookstore for many years, but have not been able to make the stop. I made arrangements with Polly to do the podcast. And we showed up on the day that they are open being a Sunday. They are only open on sunday but will open if you make prior arrangements on other days. This place was so much fun to visit and if they don't have the book you're looking would almost consider it A miracle. Polly knows every book that's in her store and where to find it, which again is a miracle. If you are ever between Jeffrey city and lander Wyoming, do not miss this stop, but make sure and bring your wallet, The books are reasonably priced but if you get out of there without an arm full of books you have a lot of self restraint.

Here are some photos from my latest podcast At the CM Russell museum in Great Falls, Montana. I have always admired Charlie Russell's work and his paintings. They are some of my favorite works of art. Christina is a great host, as well as a great tour guide. I really appreciate her spending the extra time with me explaining some of the Paintings and Events that led to the inspirations for his paintings. If you are in the Great Falls Montana area it's well worth your time to stop in and see the art and experience this museum.

Here are some pictures from my podcast at Archie McPhee's Novelty shop and rubber chicken museum. I don't even know where to start with
my comments on this place. This is a business that was established on the rubber Chicken. They invented the rubber chicken and they still produce them right there in Seattle. The museum itself is small, but they do have a very nice display of rubber chickens and a good presentation of the history of rubber chickens. The store itself is the ultimate novelty store. They have anything and everything you could imagine as far as novelties and cool items. We spent probably 3 hours walking around looking at things. This place is so much fun And you can't help but have a great time looking and touching and buying novelty items. If you are in the seattle area this is a must stop. You can also visit them on the web or order through catalogs from them.

Here are some pictures from my last podcast at the International Mermaid Museum in Aberdeen Washington. I really enjoyed this museum. At first I thought it might be a little hokey but as we went through the doors and saw their displays I was very surprised. Bailey our host knew so much about mermaid lore and about sea life in general. This museum uses the mermaid to explain a lot of ecological and ocean habitats and conservation. I did not realize that almost every group of people that live near the ocean or use the ocean for their sustainability has mermaid stories and lore. Things in this museum were presented in a very interesting way, The displays would have a discussion on a different mermaid from different parts of the world, and right next to it there would be some fun ocean facts on Sea Life or sea plant life or ocean trivia. This really was a fun museum and there is a lot to see even if you are not interested in mermaids. I really did enjoy this one.

Here are some pictures from my latest podcast at John's Beachcombing Museum. This place was unbelievable! There is so much stuff to see, and all of it has been taken from the sea. John has been beachcombing and collecting stuff off of the beaches for a long long time but the thing that's amazing is there is so much stuff that he has collected I would almost think that it would take three lifetimes to acquire that much. John also remembers where he got everything and the circumstances that brought a lot of it ashore. This place was overwhelming with the items that are on display. He has towers of buoys that have been taken off of the beaches. And I mean towers that are 30 to 50 ft tall and 100 ft round. As we were driving down the highway we saw this museum and were drawn in by the outside displays of buoys, boats and tons of other things in the yard. John happened to be around and gave me the honor of doing a podcast . If you're ever up on the coast in Northern Washington and are driving down the road and you see tons of sea items pull in and take a look around. you will not be disappointed.

Here are some pictures from my latest podcast at Astoria Underground Tours. This is my second time to do a podcast at this location. I cannot even begin to express how much fun this place is. Jeff and Chad are so much fun to take a tour with. They have so much history of Astoria to show and explain. The manner in which they do it is total visitor participation. They end up dragging everybody into the conversation by asking questions and acting a little nuts. These guys are about the best at what they do and it is 100% entertainment as well as education. The way it's presented helps you remember so many of the facts, just because it was so fun to learn. They are developing some new areas in the underground tunnels and they were excited to show me the new areas they are developing. So we did another podcast. I think you will enjoy this as much as the first one, and if you are ever in Astoria and miss this you have no idea what you are missing. Call ahead and get reservations as the tours seem to fill up fast.

Here are some pictures of my latest podcast at the Whale Sea Life and Shark Museum in depoe Bay Oregon. We were going on a whale watching tour with Carrie who owns the museum. And while booking I found that there was a museum to go along with the whale watching tour. Carrie was kind enough to do the podcast with me. Little did I know it ended up being a subject that I have been wanting to cover for a long time. She has a fantastic museum of Sea Life and a great explanation as to the types of sea life the way they live and the way that everything works together. But the part I found most fascinating is that she is a highly educated person who also has a lot of information on creation of this earth versus evolution. I have tried several creation type museums to get podcasts at and they are always very protective of their information and afraid that someone is going to throw them under the bus so to speak. I've always reassured them that I was only interested in presenting their views and proofs. Carrie on the other hand was not hesitant at all to proceed right into that topic. I didn't even have to ask for it she just went there and boy does she have the proofs. I was highly intrigued by what she had to say and she was very knowledgeable about all things sea life and also on the creation aspect. I so appreciated her talking to me about this. This is a fascinating podcast and her museum is very interesting. The whale watching tour was also excellent. We got to see a whale and got to go out on the ocean in her navy seals inflatable boat. The seas were a little rough but she was a great captain. I would highly recommend both the whale watching tour and the museum. Best time to watch for whales was from the end of May through September.

Here are some pictures from my latest podcast at the Wyeth Tootle Museum in St Joseph Missouri. This was my third podcast for the day with my host Sara. All of the museums that we visited that day were very interesting and fascinating. St Joseph Missouri has done very well in preserving their history. We still have another podcast coming out from St Joseph from another museum there. That will be coming out in the future. I found St Joseph to be a place that you could spend several days and the amount of history in the area from the Oregon trail, California trail, Mormon trail, and all trails west was amazing. They also were the home of the pony Express as well as Jesse James and so much other history. All expansion west started in that area. Also tons of Mormon history in the area. If you are ever traveling through Missouri I would highly recommend the stop in St Joseph and plan on spending a few days between there, Independence and Kansas City. There is just so much to see and do. And if you happen to get by the Glore Psychiatric Museum the African archives the Native American Museum or the Wyeth Tootle Mansion enjoy your time and say hi to Sara.

Podcast #118-S4 - St Joseph Museums - The Wyeth Tootle Mansion

About the Mansion: St. Joseph is known for an extensive collection of beautiful mansions built in the late 1800s, and the Wyeth Tootle Mansion at the corner of 11th and Charles Streets is a prime example. Built in 1879 by William and Eliza Wyeth, this 43 room mansion was designed to emulate the castles along the Rhine River in Germany. The Wyeth family only lived in the home for approximately 8 years before the home was sold to Kate Tootle. The Tootle family remained in the home until 1947 when it was purchased by William Goetz (owner of Goetz Brewery) to be used as the St. Joseph Museums. With three floors, a tower and more than 40 rooms, it stands today as one of the best examples of St. Joseph’s late 19th century wealth and opulence, featuring stunning woodwork, hand-painted ceilings and imported stained glass.

The first floor of the Wyeth Tootle Mansion has been partially restored to its Victorian grandeur. Old photographs of each room help visitors visualize the interior as it was around 1900. Each room’s ceiling is impressively different, from the cherubs that float above the Louis XVI parlor to the dark rich colors that cover the Moorish room. Ornate parquet floors and walnut woodwork change from room to room. The upper stories contain museum exhibits.

Exhibits: Edifice: The Architecture of E. J. Eckel. The architect of the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion and the founder of the firm responsible for 75 percent of the buildings in St. Joseph. The exhibit focuses on his life and the lasting impact of his accomplishments.

Intersections: Of Time and Buildings. This exhibit is housed in three renovated rooms on the second floor. The exhibit explores the intersections of history, art, architecture, and humanities as well as the past, present, and future of the City. Museum professionals, preservationists, scholars, and local artists all worked together on this innovative project. Intersections is a combination art exhibit, exploration of St. Joseph’s history, and imagining of the role of historic preservation in the City’s future. The exhibit was created by the St. Joseph Museum in partnership with the Missouri Humanities Council with support from the National Endowment for the Humanities, and Friends of St. Joseph.

Confluence: The Great Flood of 1993. An exhibit that chronicles flooding in the St. Joseph area, including the flood in 1952 that covered much of Lake Contrary Amusement Park. The details on the causes and impacts of the 1993 Flood will be included as a cathartic remembrance of those trying months in the summer of 1993 when much of the Midwest was under water. The name of the exhibit “Confluence” refers to the merging of rivers and flood waters, as well as the coming together of communities in the face of one of the costliest natural disasters in history.

History of the St. Joseph Museum. Step back in time through the extensive history of the St. Joseph Museum. Founded in 1927 as the Children's Museum, the St. Joseph Museum has called five locations its home over the near century it has been in existence. The items displayed in this exhibit are some of the earliest donations which were on display when the museum first opened in the annex of the St. Joseph Public Library. Come learn how our organization has grown and evolved over the years and what the future may hold.

Here are some pictures from my latest podcast in St Joseph Missouri. This is the second podcast with Sara as my host. This podcast covers two museums the native American Museum and the African archive Museum. These museums were very interesting and outlined a lot of the history of the native Americans and the blacks in the St Joseph Kansas City area of Missouri. There are five museums in this conglomerate. We spent a full day going through all of the displays and it was a very full day with so much information gathered at each of the museums. Well worth our time and we really enjoyed the time that Sara spent with us. We have one more podcast to do covering another of the museums in this group. It will be coming out soon.

Here are some pictures from my latest podcast at a fantastic museum. It is the Glore Psychiatric Museum in St Joseph Missouri. This museum has definitely moved into my top five most fascinating and educational museums. Sara my host was so knowledgeable about so many things. In fact she is in charge of five different museums in St Joseph. She spent one whole day taking us through the five different museums in her conglomerate. It was a pretty intense day and my next three podcasts are with her and going through the museums that she is in charge of. The Glore Psychiatric Museum is in the actual psychiatric hospital where psychiatric patients were housed. It is an amazing and yet somewhat terrifying display of the lives of psychiatric patients from early to late mid 1900s. Some of the treatments that the patients were forced to endure are unbelievable. Everything from straight jackets to frontal lobotomies to hot and cold treatments and so many other things that were supposed to help mentally ill people. These poor people were given treatment without their consent and my opinion is that a lot of these treatments were close to torture. This is an unbelievable and highly educational museum, highly recommended to anybody traveling in the Kansas City, Independence, St Joseph area of Missouri. Listen to the podcast for some real eye-opening information.
Thank you Linda for the fantastic pictures.
