Ms. Anna Pierre's English Biography
Born in Haiti, the third child in a family of nine siblings, Anna Pierre immigrated to the United States in 1981 and has been a resident of South Florida ever since. She attended Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center where she obtained her High School Diploma and Practical Nursing education. (1982-1984) While working at The Miami Jewish Home and Hospital For The Aged, She went on to Miami Dade Community College, becoming a Registered Nurse in May of 1987...

Anna Pierre’s higher education includes a Bachelor in Health Services Administration from Barry University (December 1995), a Master in Public Health from Florida International University (December 1999) and certifications from various disciplines in her field. Notably, HIV/ AIDS COUNSELOR Certificate from The State of Florida, Certification as a TRIPLE TOUCH BREAST INSTRUCTOR from The American Cancer Society and training to become a Nurse Transplant Coordinator with specialization in Liver and GI Transplant. As if these were not enough, in her quest to obtain the highest level of education necessary to perform her work as a health care provider, Anna Pierre is currently attending Barry University, working at becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner.
As a nurse, mother and an entertainer, Anna Pierre works tirelessly to enhance children and women’s lives by developing programs geared toward health promotion and disease prevention. To make health care accessible to uninsured and underserved members of South Florida’s Haitian Community, Anna Pierre, then a popular artist singer founded in 1990 APHEC INTERNATIONAL, INC known as The Anna Pierre Health Education Center, where she started to provide health education, geared toward Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, via Radio and Television broadcasts. Through her contacts with professional colleagues from Jackson Memorial Hospital where she worked as a nurse, she obtained professional advice, organized major Health Fairs and opened APHEC‘s first physical location in 2001. Soon the center was providing free health screenings for Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing, Cancer screenings for men and women as well as referrals to area clinics and hospitals for follow up care.In 2003, seeing that the patients she referred for care keep coming back to her with their ailments untreated - secondary to lack of health insurance, Anna Pierre moved on and with her own money, opened the PEOPLE’S CLINIC in North Miami, a Primary Care Center equipped with Lab drawing facility, so her people would have access to health care. Unfortunately, due to lack of operating funds, the clinic is now closed, but thanks to Anna Pierre’s great ability to connect with others and leadership skills, the Center still providing health care through its referral service, health fairs and large arrays of Health Care Providers network.Anna Pierre has been the recipient of several Awards and Honors from some prestigious institutions for her outstanding community work, on behalf of individuals with no access to health care. Notably, many proclamations from The Mayor / The City of North Miami, Miami Dade Board of County Commissioners and the mayor, Mother of Haiti, for motherly love given to patients infected with the HIV virus (1990) S.O.A.P. Outstanding Female Artist of the year (1996) Haiti Focus, Outstanding Community Leader (2001) Jackson Health System, Nurses Who Go Above & Beyond (2001) National Nurses Alliance, Nomination to The Florida Women Hall of Fame (part of top 20), Hats off to Caribbean success / La Belle Top Event Model Agency (2009) Model of Resilience of Haitian Women Award (2010) Children & Families Global Development Fund, Inc.When Anna Pierre enters a room, give her a few minutes and you can immediately feel her energy. Beneath her radiant smile and girlish laugh, however is a woman of tremendous strength, courage and determination. After graduating from High School in Haiti, Anna Pierre was fortunate enough to receive training as a Practical Nurse, but when she later applied for admission at the Registered Nursing Program, she was turned down. Undaunted, she made arrangements through a friend who was living in Montreal Canada and headed to Montreal, only to face immigration problems after a few months, which forced her to return to Haiti for another six months. In Canada, she says: “It didn’t matter if you were good and productive, if you are an illegal alien, you can hide in a hole, when and if the bureau of Immigration needs you, they’ll find you”.Finally, Anna Pierre left her native City of Cap-Haitien again to relocate to Miami. Although she had friends and knew what she wanted to accomplish, the transition was not easy. She had to learn to speak English fluently and find employment. Anna Pierre always jokes about, how on her first job application, she checked that she was a thief and had been in jail 3 times, secondary to not understanding English at the time and not knowing the meaning of the words thief and jail. Seeing her innocence and lack of English, the office manager of the clinic where she applied for the job hired her and helped her register at Miami Dade Community College to study English as a second language.

On behalf of my family, I seized the opportunity to express our sincere thanks for your loving support, concerns and comforting words during our time of bereavement. Pioneering Hollywood actress Cicely Tyson - who was known for portraying strong African-American characters - has died aged 96, her manager has said.
No cause of the death was given. The former fashion model had a career that spanned seven decades.
Tyson won two Emmys for her performance in the 1974 civil rights-era film The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman.
She also became the first black woman to take on a main role in the TV drama East Side/West Side in the 1960s.
Presenting Tyson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, the then US President Barrack Obama said that apart from her achievements as a actress, she had also shaped the course of history.

Cicely Tyson turned down stereotypical roles for black women, agreeing only to play characters that were strong, positive and realistic.
"I have managed Miss Tyson's career for over 40 years, and each year was a privilege and blessing," her manager Larry Thompson said in Thursday's statement announcing her death.
"Cicely thought of her new memoir as a Christmas tree decorated with all the ornaments of her personal and professional life. Today she placed the last ornament, a star, on top of the tree," the manager added.
Tyson's memoir Just As I Am was published on Tuesday.
Paying tribute to Cicely Tyson, US broadcaster and actress Oprah Winfrey said: "She used her career to illuminate the humanity of Black people. The roles she played reflected her values; she never compromised."
