What exactly is the economy?

There are two- the one you hear about on the news, and the one that you personally live in. On the news - it's made up of every single American, and what we collectively buy with our income.

Like what the state of NY, ND, or NC creates and spends. Or the Department of Defense. Or Google. The high level stuff.

Then, there's the one we are most familiar with - it's the one we actually live in. What we pay for gas… in our city. What we pay to fix a broken toilet… in our city. How much money we make… at our jobs, in our city. At a high level, the economy has a profound effect on our lives.

It's 2040, and the sun is setting.

You check your phone and see a text from your third.

"Hey dad, thanks for all you do. Glad you are in my life."

You smile and reply.

"Love you. Grateful for you. Even more proud."

You then check your inbox and see an email from Schwab.

It's your monthly statement.

You open it and see you made $35,000 last month (it was a great month in the markets).

You check your dividends/interest for your month - $15,000 - nice.

You see how much you took out - $10,000 - on track.

Your wife then sends you a message - she's coming home from Target.

"Want to grab a quick dinner someplace?"

You reply.

"yes, where, I'll leave now."

You leave the house and join her for dinner.

This is it - the fruit of the seeds we are sowing today.

To be content, to have a great relationship with our kids, a spontaneous, fun marriage, and freedom with time and money.
