Confederate monument taken down in Hanover Square
A monument to Confederate soldiers in Hanover Square came down Tuesday and was loaded into a truck and trailer in three pieces.
Where it was going, city officials would not disclose. One city worker said it may be heading to what some believe to be a graveyard of Confederate soldiers in Waynesville. As of Tuesday morning, the city had yet to decide where to store it in the interim, said City Manager Regina McDuffie.
No firm plans had yet been made for the landscaped area around the monument, either, she said.

Moving trees at the intersection of Kings Way and Frederica Road

Roadwork is slated to begin soon, with most of the heavy construction going on at night. Ideally, the project would be finished before Memorial Day.
