Aldersonian News Update
The other day, while searching for one article, I came across another that I didn't remember being on the Aldersonian. And speaking of remembering, that's the subject of the article. This piece covers the remembering of incidents, times, and places over several generations. So regardless of your age, and did or do, at one time lived in Alderson, you should remember some of the subjects listed. Here's the link.

When the "younger generation" was surely going to hell? When the Post Office was on the ball? You could mail an order to Montgomery Ward on the evening train Sunday and pick it up at 7:30 Tuesday morning. There was a Railway Post Office car on the train. Mrs. Pearl Scott at the money order window? H...

Advice to the old folks!
How to get out of very low cars.

This problem comes and sneaks up on you before you know it. You have to plan for it before you actually do it, making sure your weight is leaning toward the door. Sometimes there's some rocking back and fourth, and once your weight is closer to the opening, you can attempt an exit. Oh yes, make sure your hands are positioned on the right parts of the car. I don't usually make it on the first try.

We've all seen lists of information that appear in church bulletins. Typos, incorrect words and misplaced information can make for some interesting reading. My cousin sent me one of the newest lists making its rounds. Enjoy!.

• The fasting and prayer conference includes meals.

• Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Don't forget your husbands.

• The peacemaking meeting scheduled for today has of Father Jack's sermons.

• Irving Benson and Jessie Carter were married Oct. 24 in the church. So ends a beautiful friendship that began in their school days.

• At the evening service tonight, the sermon topic will be, "What Is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice.

• Eight new choir robes are currently needed due to the addition of several new members and to the deterioration of some older ones.

• Please place your donation in the envelope along with the deceased person you want remembered.

• The church will host an evening of fine dining, super entertainment and gracious hostility.

• Potluck supper Sunday at 5 p.m. - prayer and medication to follow.

• Ladies' Bible study will be held Thursday morning at 10 a.m. All ladies are invited to lunch in the fellowship hall after the B.S. is done.
• The pastor would appreciate it if the ladies of the congregation would lend him their electric girdles for the pancake breakfast next Sunday.

• Low self-esteem support group will meet Thursday at 7 p,m. Please use the back door .

• The eighth-graders will be presenting Shakespeare's "Hamlet" in the church basement Friday at '7 p.m. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy.

The Aldersonian

In 1922 the Alderson Baptist Academy and Junior College of Alderson W.V., launched the first edition of their school newspaper, called The Aldersonian. The Academy printed it for several years and stopped it's publication. In 1928, the city of Alderson had just finished the construction of it's new public high school building and resumed the publication of the Aldersonian about that time. Alderson High School continued printing the paper until the school's closing in 1968.

The Aldersonian lie dormant until 1998, when Barry Worrell, an Alderson High School graduate, resurrected it on the internet. Starting as an exercise in web page building, The Aldersonian has continued for the past 22 years. It includes, school and city history, articles by the alumni and many photos, old and new. It also serves as the town newspaper, especially for those Aldersonians who are scattered across the U. S. and beyond.
