Platte County was able to do something tonight to the Webb City offense that is still pretty unbelievable.

Pirates head coach Bill Utz talked about his senior heavy defensive front and how good the line and linebackers had been all year.

If they play like this next weekend they’ll be hard to beat. MICDS’ offensive line will have its hands full.

Webb City had not been held below 134 rushing yards all season. It had only been held below 200 yards in four of 12 games prior to tonight. Two of those were 191 yards and 199 yards.

The Cardinals only picked up 74 yards on 38 carries tonight.

Utz wouldn’t say if this was his defense’s best performance or not but he said he’s never surprised with what they do. He did admit it’s tough to shutout an opponent, especially one as efficient offensively as WC.

Webb City’s defense will be faced with a tall task of slowing down Platte County’s offense scoring 50 points per game behind the leadership of Rocco Marriott. But head coach Ryan McFarland said his defense has stepped up to challenges all season. They’re excited for another one at 7 pm. Friday.

Webb City (6-6) is set for a Class 5 state quarterfinal bout with Platte County (11-0) at 7 p.m. Friday on John Roderique Field at Cardinal Stadium.

Webb City had to overcome some early struggles to get here. Confidence has gotten them this far and the confidence won’t fade now.
