My favorite LinnDrum groove
Cracked the code on my favorite LinnDrum beat from the summer of 1984. Can you name the song? It’s pretty obvious. Also, I’m thinking about doing a faithful recreation of the song now that I’ve got the groove!

Rachael Wolff is like fam, as are her wonderful sisters Kat and Becca. I’ve had the chance to make two killer records with The Wolff Sisters, and am thrilled to work with Rachael on some new music all her own.
A few words from Rachael-
My debut single ‘Drive It Till It Dies’ drops July 22nd 🎶
I’ve been writing, playing, and releasing music with my band and sisters @wolffsisters since I was a teenager but this is my first time releasing solo music. It feels strange to branch out on my own but it was fun to challenge myself and I’m proud of what I accomplished with this song. I hope you like it 🎶

What's better than a studio filled with great gear? A studio filled with PEOPLE! That says it all doesn't it?
Make your next project your best project...
Asking how much it costs to make a record is like asking how much it costs to build a house, or how much it costs to buy a car. So many analogies, but you get where I’m going. The truth is there are MANY factors. How many songs? Are we mixing it? Are we mastering it? Am I producing and playing on it? Not all studio experiences are created equal, and if you’re looking for “good enough” or “cheap” we definitely aren’t for you. Doing great work does not come cheap, nor should it.

We LOVE our Mellotron M400D, and use it almost daily! These sounds were recorded to show just a small bit of what the instrument is capable of doing, and how much it can add to a song…
We began a new album project yesterday with Massachusetts based artist Jerry Ezold, a wonderful guy, and so easy to work with!
We started with a cover of Graham Nash’s “I Used to be a King”, a personal fave. I used the new Magnatone for the guitar solo, Les Paul going direct. What a great day!

What a week so far! We’re working simultaneously between homebase Dirt Floor Recording & Production, and the Power Station New England. When I first met Evan Bakke(PS chief engineer)five years ago, we vowed to find projects to do together. It’s great to finally be doing that.
On another note, we received this incredible Magnatone Twilighter combo, straight from company headquarters. Thanks to my friend, artist and Magnatone GM Rod Washburn, for welcoming us to the Mag fam!

Creating Fleetwood Mac-esque parts for an artists album project.
I love using the high strung "Nashville tuned" guitar to create thematic layers with movement. I've found that these parts become integral to the composition. As a producer I always look for a musical theme to help tell the story, even before the vocals are added.

Folks seem into these little vids, and I thought i’d share a snippet of a track we’re mixing today by NJ based songwriter Chip Rishell. We’ve been working on a record together over the last year, and are at that stage now! Anyway, just isolating some of the tracks so you can hear the individual parts, and how they all sound put back together!

“Love Is Alive" performed by Eric M Lichter
This is an exact re-creation using the same analog instruments found on Gary's 1975 version. This was a fun challenge, considering all of the little parts I needed to learn. I also don't usually sing in this way, so that was a challenge too! Andy Newmark’s funky kick drum pattern was was absolutely necessary to get down, otherwise the whole groove would have felt wrong.
Gary's Moog parts seemed abstract on the original recording, falling in odd spots throughout. I'd listen to bits of his original, then overdub mine in the same spots, like a musical game of Simon!
Doing these cover songs was a fun way to get through the early part of covid, and to dig deeper into my own musical well as an instrumentalist. Thanks for all these great song suggestions!
