Ground training is essential using a logical approach.

Desensitize your mule with gentle strokes to the body to learn his sensitive areas.

Have an assistant work with you for safety reasons.
Sit quietly for a minute before walking on after mounting.

Sure I get tired, and sometimes I pray, asking the Lord if I am making a difference. I can't let it go, because I love what I do. I own it. I write about the people connected in the mule industry, I interview kindred spirits that feel and have the same energy that I do. It keeps us alive, and we are driven to better the mule industry. We step up to help our brothers and sisters in the livestock community. We give strength to each other and we care for our animals. I thank my lucky stars every day.

Listen up cowboys and cowgirls! I applied to the National Day Calendar to designate the entire month of July for the American Cowboy. One day is not enough to pay tribute to the working cowboy that puts beef on our table. Ranchers need our support. Sam Neely (western actor - Deadwood the mini series and other films) prompted me in this direction. Many of my friends are cowboys (not keyboard kowboys) You guys (and gals) are rockin' it. Cowboy recording artists, actors, poets, everyone keeping the cowboy legacy alive are recognized in this application. The oldest mule cowboy pictured is Lonnie Chiliwithoutbeans Lonnie King. OK keep up the fight and God bless you guys.

Suitability of Mules and Donkeys for Children - Meredith Hodges - Lucky Three Ranch

Teach your child how to be around equines.
When choosing an equine for your child, do not choose a donkey jack.
Do not choose an equine that is an alpha figure in the herd or one with aggressive behavior.
Choose a mule or donkey with a quiet disposition for your child.
Encourage children to do tasks around the barn to learn more about their equines' behavior traits.
Consider giving a homeless donkey, b***o or mule a chance to be in your child's care.
Donkeys tend to have fewer issues and tend to be more sedate rescue animals than mules.
This and more are included in this episode of Mule Talk!
