A lawsuit filed on behalf of the Griffice family alleges a dangerous buildup of methane gas due to local mining operations is behind the fire and explosion. On Saturday, Eli & Buttercup Abel participated in the 2024 4-H Pig Squeal. Both of them received awards and Eli brought home overall supreme showmanship. Their mom Brandy tells me they worked great as a team preparing for the Pig Squeal, from cleaning the pen to collecting sponsorships together!

On Thursday, two tractor trailers overturned in the intersection of I-59/20, sometimes referred to as "dead man's curve" because of frequent crashes. UPDATE: Mccalla Fire and Rescue tells us they responded to a fire alarm call around 1:30 p.m. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but it continues to reignite which is why crews remain on the scene. The fire is contained and there are no reported injuries.
HAPPENING NOW: Fire crews on the scene of a fire at Smuckers Plant in Mccalla on Old Tuscaloosa Highway. We are told the fire started in a freezer and spread to the roof. I will continue to share updates as we learn more. ABC 33/40
