In honor of Veterans Day, we'd like to share these photos from our first From the Vault in the Winter 2016 issue. That photo essay focused on Walker County during the Gulf War. These photos are from the reunion of members of Alabama National Guard’s 715th Maintenance Company and their families in June 1991. According to the Eagle’s unofficial count, more than 300 men and women from the Walker-Winston county area served in the Persian Gulf.

"We're going to budget a nice four-lane road from Memphis to Birmingham by way of Jasper which will probably cost $100 million," Congressman Tom Bevill told the Daily Mountain Eagle in 1979. The highway, soon to be dubbed Corridor X, would take more than 35 years to become reality, and the actual price tag would be more than $1 billion.
