This was my reality today. It felt like, looked like, and became what most of us imagine Thursday is- "not Friday".
I couldn't stay warm and felt on the verge of illness- dead tired- so worked from bed most of the day.
After making 2 loaves of bread tonight, I passed a wrapped up hot loaf to a friend to hug (a tradition as dear as eating it warm with butter) and proceeded to wrap up the hot ceramic pans in a towel and took them to bed with me.
The pioneers were onto something with those hot coal bedwarmers! I'm finally toasty and comfy.
Why didn't I think of this before!? All this wonderful heat would be sitting on a counter.
It's weird, but it's also wonderful ;)

Choose your pain...
Those who work their land will have abundant food, but those who chase fantasies lack sense.
2 people were given the same sum of money (opportunity).
Both buy a small plot of land in spring with enough left over to buy simple equipment and seed (planning).
One breaks ground and plants (execution).
The other wants more land (shiny things/the next best thing), leaving his first lot to get overgrown with brush and thickets (wasted timing/vision/purpose).
The first harvests enough for the family with extra to sell, giving income to buy more land or get better tools. Their hands are callused from hard work, guaranteeing less pain the next time around.
They are intimately familiar with weather patterns and growth time and know the joy of each progression toward harvest.
If they buy more land, they have systems and equipment to do it again. Or, if they get better equipment, they can get more out of their small plot. Either way, they are ahead.
The second now has too much land to care for, no processes they learned from, and no muscle memory or callouses, so the work to begin digging (planning) and planting (execution) is more daunting than ever. Now, instead of tilling and planting, they are digging tree roots, ousting critters, and burning brush all summer. All the money is gone. It's winter, and they're still hungry.
The lesson:
What do you already have in front of you? Has it been worked fully? Can you package it differently? Have you used all the ground you already have?
Don't get distracted by what could be until you've exhausted the opportunities you've already paid for, earned, and are set up for.
