I have always had a natural love of sound recording. From my days playing in bands to my eduction at the Recording Workshop, my career as a location recordist has taken me from the Sands, Mountains and waterfalls of Morocco to the Glaciers and Grizzlies of Alaska!

Lets Talk about out going transmission in a professional sound bag. In todays ever crowded RF Environments having clean coordinated RF mics on your in bag Talent receivers is mor critical than ever to get good performance from your systems. Those of us in the production sound bag world have outgoing RF signals coming from the bag like IFB and Camera Hops. While those are critical to the success of a production, they are also responsible for causing in bag RF issues with your talent receivers. Close proximity of outgoing RF transmission can desensitize the front end filtering of your in bag, receivers reducing range and causing possible intermodulation artifacts, making for a tough RF day. I have been told many times in my years as a production mixer to get that transmitter out of the bag and onto the shoulder strap or harness, however, that has never been a practical solution, when taking the bag on and off throughout the day for rest, breaks, and or wiring talent. The best solution that I have found, and has been a game changer is the 36 inch coaxial 1/4 wave antenna made by Lectrosonics Inc.
This antenna allows you to get the transmitting element farther away from your in bag talent receivers eliminating the possibility of desensitization and inter mod artifacts. This allows you to keep the actual transmitter in the bag along with powering, but allowing the antenna to dangle off the side of the bag or run it up the strap of your harness. In the photo with my IFB’s transmitter, you will see the 36 inch coaxial antenna in which the red arrows show the whip transmission part of the antenna at the end of the cable. This is the part that has moved further away from my bag receivers, you can cut this to whatever antenna length suit your needs. In my case, a B1 IFB transmitter is cut to the Center Frequency four block 22. this is especially critical without outgoing digital camera hop transmitter (my DCHT). This set up has completely eliminated any issues for me with any in bag wireless talent receive. A simple and elegant solution to a long time bag problem.

Walk and talk shot long lense and Drone far enough away to not hear it. 888, Sl-2, MCR 54 Dual Rx and MTP60 transmitters in Band 8 940-960 100Mw in ankle straps with 1 Wisycom LPDA fin and 1 Whip. Never hav I achieved such range! Also great range to camera With Lectrosonics DCHT/ DCHR on a whip! We did several of these this week all with strong RF performance.

Imported a real-time location scan using a AIM TTI Spectrum analyzer, added my transmitters and click “Coordinate”. Bam, 6 frequencies coordinated for my shoot day. Yes Wireless Designer can be used by bag recordists to get up an coordinated for the day.
